| Merlion04-21-06, 12:37 PM | I am having a problem with Class Defense Bonus and Touch attacks, but to explain it properly requires a little background I am using both Class Defense Bonus and Armor as Damage Reduction...in fact I have totally removed the idea of adding "armor bonuses" or "natural armor bonuses" to Armor Class...your Armor class is only effected by things that help you get out of the way (Dex, Class Defense, dodge bonuses) or that actually deflect attacks (basically, Deflection bonuses for whatever). Anything that comes from armor or other heavy protection (scales etc) gives DR. With monsters, I am giving them some DR based on the original Natural Armor Bonus (not neccesarily the amount stated in the Armor as DR rules themselves), then lowering their armor class slightly but basically having some of it be a defense bonus as the Class Defense is. It works quite well overall, and it satisfies my desire to make things a little more logical (wearing armor or having tough skin doesnt make you harder to hit, it makes you take less damage). The only trouble is, touch attacks, or rather spells or anything else that involve touch attacks have been massively weakned. Right now, I am trying to fix that by allowing spellcasters to add half their spellcasting ability score modifier to touch attack rolls, and also giving a small level based bonus (probably +1 at 5th and every 4 levels thereafter). However, I am not sure that thats doing the trick, or that it is the most effective aproach, especially since what I'm doing with the monsters seems to be making them a little too easy to hit with melee. So, I'd just like suggestions or ideas about additional/better ways to improve the touch attack problem. |
