| Xeviat-DM08-13-05, 04:45 PM | I don't like the Defense Bonus rules as presented in Unearthed Arcana; the numbers are too rediculously high. Alternately, I'd like to reduce the numbers to the more reasonable patterns presented in d20 Modern: 0, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7 (level/3 ish) 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10 (?) 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11, 12, 12, 13 (level/2 + 3) Additionally, armor would provide damage reduction, and only damage reduction. But this damage reduction would only apply to critical hits, and this game would utilize VP/WP rules. If your VP are reduced to zero, your armor's damage reduction will not reduce the damage you will then take to wounds. Each armor would have a max dex bonus, as usual. So Light armored people would have higher ACs, while heavy armored people would have high DRs vs. critical hits. Alternately, the DRs could apply at all times, but that might not be fair since we're talking about very high numbers and 1d8+2 damage wouldn't be able to cut the 8/- DR that full plate would give. Any support? Ideas? Comments? |

To be brutally honest, I never cared for the Star Wars "armor as DR" rules, so I replaced it with the Unearthed Arcana version and let the armor's bonus to Defense stack with Class Defense Bonus. I still let DR protect WP normally but any critical hit bypass it. |

I'm assuming Rogue, Monk, and Ranger (the "light" warriors), possibly even the Barbarian. Non-combatants would get the low rating, while everyone else would get the medium rating? |
