Has anyone played a cloistered cleric? What are your impressions? Is it a playable, functional and balanced class?

I've a player IMC who is making a new character, and he's considernig a cleric of Wee Jas. He was curious about the cloistered cleric, and I'm looking for some input on the class. From my point of view, it certainly looks much more of a cleric that I'd play, as opposed to the regular cleric (much too militant for me).

Thanks in advance.

If you want to play a cleric like a wizard (robes and tomes) then this is your class. A player in a game i'm in playes one, he is our knowledge guy and a healer (not a combatant though) it seems to work out.

I dont have access to my book till friday, and it might very well fit my character concept.

Thanks in Advance.

Main bonus seems to be 6+Int skill points, and always having the Knowledge domain, no matter what deity she worships.

Don't forget the Lore ability. It gives them Bardic Knowlege. Other than that I am not sure if we are missing anything...

It's a cleric with a twist :)

Use the standard cleric stats, but change the following:

HD: d6

BAB: As wizard/sorcerer

Skill Points: 6 + Int modifier (four times that at 1st level)

Skills: All cleric skills, plus Decipher Script, Speak Language, Knowledge (all) (virtue of the Knowledge domain, see below)

Weapon and Amrour Proficiency: Simple weapons and Light armour, no shields.

Lore: Identical to bardic knowledge.

Domains: All cloistered clerics gain access to the Knowledge domain, in addition to their other two domains. They gain access to knowledge domain even if their deity normally does not give access to it. They can still prepare only a single domain spell per spell level.

Spellcasting: Add the following spells to cloistered cleric spell list:
0-level: message;
1st level: erase, identify, unseen servant;
2nd level: fox's cunning;
3rd level: illusory script, secret page, tongues (reduced from 4th level);
4th level: detect scrying;
6th level: analyse dweomer;
7th level: sequester;
9th level: vision.
