i was flipping through the book and could not find anything regarding how you treat levels in a paragon class for determining contacts and reputation. anyone know how that works? the theories my friends and i have come up with thus are are:

they fall under the branch that gives the worst progression

they fall under the category of your races favored class (but what about humans and the half races that have no favored class?)

you assign the class to progress as a class you already have (but what if you start paragon at 1st level?)

the levels that give spellcasting count towards the appropriate class, the levels that do not count towards a different class (seems too complicated)

so, does anyone have any ideas on this, or the actually answer on how this is supposed to work?

I'd say, when in doubt, use the progression of the race's favored class.

i agree that using the race's favored class to determine which tree to follow makes sense, but as i mentioned, what about humans and half elves who have no favored class?

Maybe go with the best progression, but only for members of the paragon's race? So an elf paragon would be well known amongst the elven population of a city and probably have a friend living there to help him out. There would be no contacts from other races, and no reputation benefit in regards to other races or contacts from other races which in the long run would be a bad thing, putting them far behind everyone else, except for the fact that paragons only go up to 3 levels.

I'd give an elf or half-elf paragon a reputation benefit, albeit a negative one, among orc and half-orc communities. The same goes for other races and racial enemies.
