This one is not about power, this one is about being cool or having a neat theme, even if less powerful that other combinations. Show me what you got!

psiwarrior/monk, taking psi-feats that enhance movement, and Jumping Attack feats. crouching Tigher/hidden dragon anyone? ass monk movement rates, add 10 feet from speed of thought, and go Up The Wall while making 90 turns in your charge.... oh, and then jump really far. :)

hexblade/battlesorcerer: really charismatic dude in a chain shirt tossing about both buffing spells and offensive spells, burning up spell slots in Arcane Strikes, just all around a kina scary guy

any other particularly neat combinations you like?

Swashbuckler/Rogue for that Grey Mouser type.

Fighter/Rogue when you want all the feats and all the skill points

Marshal/Bard Leader of men, strummer of Lutes, buffer of party

Something I have been toying arround since some time is an Evangelist/Sorcerer well thats a char I really call blessed with magic.

The other ideas I have are heavily influenced by DBZ and Final Fantantasy. (note to me: research spell Ka-me-ha-me-haaaa)
Finaly I got the means as DM to challenge my players with a character like Sephiroth ( I am not talking about a one-shot fear me I am the crazy Seph fight, but a longlasting campaign inspired by the various FFs) IMO he would be a mad Paladin/Sorcerer with the madness domain and a nice template or perhaps only a divine rank ;) .

On the other hand a Swashbuckle/Bard could make it into many ladies bedrooms ;)

A great combo I've researched is the gestalt cleric/monk. It's simple and straightforward. Both classes' primary ability score is Wisdom. You won't need to worry about spending money on armor or weapons because of the monk abilities. You'll have spells from the cleric abilities to take care of anything you can't talk or fight your way out of normally. Your gestalt cleric/monk would practically surpass a paladin or blackguard.

Two thumbs up from me on the optional Gestalt rules!

Even better is a gestalt OA shaman/monk with the Hero domain. If you put your highest scores in Wisdom and Charisma, and take the Divine Power feat, you'll have the ultimate saving throws in the game, dish great damage, and be able to polymorph into giant form to boost your physical attributes and unarmed damage. Plus, you'll be able to spout twice as many annoying psuedo-Confucian platitutes. :D

For the ultimate hunter, combine the urban ranger variant and the hunter druid variant. You'll get double the favored enemies (they don't stack, but you can get twice as many of them), excellent AC without armor, fast movement, versatile spells, and the ultimate in tracking anyone anywhere.

If you combine the hunter druid variant with the barbarian, you'll get a lightning-fast spellcasting hunter-killer missile of physical destruction.

paladin//sorcerer/spellsword/exalted arcanist. One level of spellsword is all you'll need for mithral chain shirt or twilight mithral breastplate. True strike prior to power attack, with divine might to boot. At high levels, take greater aspect of the deity to become a mean winged flying machine. Use lesser restoration/restoration to allow you to keep chugging out sanctified spells like Hammer of Rightiousness. Use faster sanctify to quickly drop fireballs at your feet without having to worry about hurting yourself or your allies. And Exalted Fury will give you the type heroic departure that any paladin would love to have (especially because you have the hp to make good use of it).

While some may consider this too powerful, I think it ranks high on coolness factor. It uses the generic classes. Begin as a gestalt arcane spellcaster/divine spellcaster. Each class gives access to all druid, cleric, and sorcerer/wizard spells. Once you hit 4th level, you begin taking levels of mystic theurge, while alternating between arcane and divine spellcaster. The ultimate magic-user! Oh, and perhaps also archmage and hierophant at upper levels.

It says that MyTh is banned from gmaes that allow Gestalt.

Anway:

It takes a lot of high stats to back it up, but a gestalt paladin/monk would kick arse. Perhas mix in a Vow of Poverty.

Sure, I think generic classes should also be banned from the gestalt option. I was only thinking of coolness factor.

What about this one...

Fighter/Cleric/Prestige Paladin

You gain more spells per day in your cleric class with the prestige paladin, and your cleric and prestige paladin levels stack for purposes of turning undead.

Straight Druid/Barbarian.

Druid Wildshapes into a high-con creature, and the Barbarian Rages. Uber killing machine.

Driud Wildshapes into something small, and barbarian uses uncany dodge. Uber survival machine.

Not as cool as the psionic monk, but sure comes close.

That's a good one.

How about Paladin of Freedom/bard? You're a holy warrior, with a canny wit, skill, and a song to bring hope to the opressed masses.

Now, don't tell me that wouldn't be all kinds of cool.

And, of course, the obligatory:

Rogue/druid, chnaging into ninja of the crescent moon/dread pirate.

All you would need is a dinosaur animal companion for the druid levels, and then there would be no stopping your character. It would be a combo that can't be beat, like mixing booze and liquor.

I am attempting to make a gestalt who is a fighter and a wizard with Fighter bonus feats rather than Wizard bonus feats ( Page 59 Unearthed Arcana ) and an Animal Companion rather than a Familiar ( Pages 58-59 Unearthed Arcana )

With human as race, he gets 4 feats a first level. 2 fighter, two normal.

A quite powerful Melee combatant with a good amount of magic as well.

I think an obvious combo is sneak attack fighter and rouge. Of course, this raises another slightly more sutomizable combo, the feats rouge standard fither human with a couple o flaws. (think about your options with 8 feats by second level and a ton of skill points)
Zeus-the-mighty

03-21-04, 02:26 AM
you would only get one sneak progresion with that combo. I still like the wiz/rogue combo. high inteligence gets you skills beyond belief. or if you go sorc/rogue you could charm your way out of anything magical or not.

03-21-04, 09:25 AM
fighter/psion would be fun to play, or rouge/psion, or rouge/psy war. Kind of the coolness factor of being able to manafiest powers when skulking around (rouge), or just flat out changing combat with the psion/fighter combo. Raw power:Psion/Arcane(Wiz or Sorc), or Psion/Divine(Druid or Cleric) combine with resculpt mind a good amount of feats plus access to all those nice psionic feats. Or a psy warrior/wizard- tons of feats and can fight out of trouble

Favored Soul/ Sorcerer is an awesome combination...

All 3 favored saves, d8 hit points, excellent skill list (even if your skill points ARE crappy), and both Divine and Arcane Charisma based spontaneous casting. Coupled with free Weapon Focus (Deitys weapon) and a bunch of interesting Energy Resistances and Weapon Specialization and you have a pretty cool combination of classes.

And guys, Rouge means Red in French, and is also a form of womens make-up, while Rogue means vagabond/thief in English.

03-21-04, 12:59 PM
Psion/rouge. Once they learn fusion they can make them selfs their own army. They can surround their enemy and sneak attack the crap out of them.

Paladin/Ranger, my preference being the non-spellcasting variants of each from Complete Warrior. Not so much for cool ability combinations, but a cool roleplaying combo. (Might even be weak as gestalts go.)

Combining the ranger and the urban ranger is probably not as strong as some other combos, but its the ultimate bounty hunter, and is especially good if you rule that the ranger's racial favored enemy and the urban ranger's organization favored enemy don't overlap, as well as their spells. They have a slightly different spell list, do they gain both spell progressions do you think?

Rouge/Ninja (Base class, came out in OA Web Enchancment and Dragon magazine)

at 20th level:
Rouge: +10d6 Sneak Attack
Ninja: +10d6 Sudden Strike
That means that at 20th level, you can deal +20d6 per attack with a max of 7 attacks. with shortswords that means:

147d6 damage per full attack :P now thats abusable with a Ring of Blinking.

03-22-04, 12:06 AM
actually, Sneack Attack counts as the same ability form btoh classes. Sorry dude, it is a cool concept., but the rulesare that you only have 10d6 SA at 20th level. otherwise, a cleric/paladin would end up having a turning power of a 37th level cleric at 20th level.

Or as legal. sorry, but varients of the same class can't be put next to each other like that.

One of the Dragons a while ago had Fighter varients, but once you took one of them you could never multiclass into another varient or a normal fighter. I'd say something the same applies here too.

Strenoth is right on the sneak attack/sudden strike thing though. If nothing else, sudden strike is inferior to sneak attack and you would get the better of the two.

Some fun ones:

Paladin of Tyranny 3/Fighter 3/Spellsword 10/Master Samurai 4
Sorceror 15/Fighter 4-8

With Arcane Strike, this is just fun Armored Katana Goodness. Also, you can channel meteorstorm if you feel like it!

Nasty:
Paladin 6/Fighter 2/Iajutsu Master 10/Whatever 2
Sorceror 5/Rouge 1/Arcane Duelist 2/Rouge 2-12/Sorceror 6

9d6 Iajutsu strike+ 6d6 sneak attack, + 9 x Charisma Mod= fun.

Hexblade 3/Fighter 2/Horizon Walker 1-6/Occult Slayer 5/Horizon Walker 7-9
Monk 20

The Anti Mage. Take Sun School, use it with Dimensional Door and Vicious Strike whenever someone tries to cast a spell.

Oh, and just generally cool combination:
Fighter/Cleric = Templar
Barbarian/Druid = Raging Death Bear
Druid/Monk= Unhittable Death Bear
Druid/Rouge= Sneaky Death Bear
Swasbuckler-Duelist/Wizard= Int to practically everything

Hmm... a Warforged Psion+Soulknife... especially if you take the Mithral or Adamantine feat at first level... Great when the party gets captured, since you can't have your armor or weapons taken away from you. And you'd better get yourself enchanted with the phasing property!
Sure, it's not a good base attack progression and your fortitude saves are poor, but it can be fun!

Course, you could always go with the Fighter+Soulknife combo and use your slew of fighter feats to become really nasty with your mindblade.

Haven't played any Gestalt, so not completely sure of all the specifics, but Rogue/Sorcerer sprang to mind. Charisma is important to both, Rogues typically wear light armor (so low spell failure), use sorcerer spells to spell up the rogue (improved invisibility, cat's grace, blink, etc), to constantly deny enemies Dex bonus for sneak attacks, and use other spells for enemies that are immune to sneak attacks or to protect from abilities they have. Could you Sneak Attack with magic missile? If so, send one missile at each enemy, for up to 5 sneak attacks in one attack!

fighter/mage type
Hexblade 20 with Battle sorcerer 15 and havoc mage 5 or maybe archmage.

Shadow mage
Wizard specialized in Necro or illusion 5, Shadow adept 10, archmage 5, with sorcerer 10 shadow mage 10(the one in the underdark guide).

Sneak
Human or Tiefling Shadow walker Rogue 3, Battle sorcerer or bard 5, Arcane trickster 10, Shadow Dancer 2 with figther or Ranger 14, shadow lord 6.

They would stack together. It says so in the Dragon Mag. sudden strike is weaker then SA you can only do it to a Dex-denied baddie, and you can do the same with SA, so if they denied their Dex 20d6 if not 10d6. Still good both ways if you ask me.

One idea I plan exploring in my next campaign is a Githzerai Fighter-Monk/Psychic Warrior-Soulknife. Thinking a F-M 4/PW-S 16 would be a good one, since that gets a +16 BAB at 20th Level. Concept is the alien warrior battling with skill, speed, agility and glowing blades of the mind, flipping and rolling around foes and slashing them to bits with twin psi-shortswords.

Another is an Ogre Fighter-Barbarian/Barbarian-Frenzied Berzerker. HD from hades, and rage-a-licious battle madness.

And lostone, you can only Sneak Attack with weaponlike spells. Since Magic Missile doesn't require an attack roll, you can't SA with it. Now, something like Scorching Ray, OTOH...
Kaiosama214

If I'm not mistaken, Fighter + Psionic Warrior from XPH = Feat at every level.

Druid / Psychic Warrior: Claws of Energy / the Vampire / Truevenom. 'Nuff said.

Rogue / Psion (Telepath): You can't even see me, but I know what you're thinking. Hmm, this would be an excellent BBEG...

I agree about Monk/Psion -- it's a great combo, very flavorful. However, I've analyzed the Monk/PsiWar, and found it lacking. The PsiWar isn't so good about augmenting unarmed strikes, unless you can convince your DM that they are either Claws (not just natural weapons) or manufactured weapons. (Hmm, actually, the PHB seems to indicate that they can be treated as either. Okay, PsiWar/Monk is cool again -- but remember to take Weapon of Energy, etc. not Claws of XXX!)

I'm all about the Monk/Druid -> Monk/Shifter.

Try Monk 5/Druid 5 -> Monk 10/Shifter 10

This gives you:

15 levels of Monk+
5 levels of Druid spells+
The ability to turn into just about any damn thing you want.

Ever wonder what the grapple check of a storm giant monk is? :D

How about a fighter/warmage?

lotsa big booms, full BAB, decent saves, good HP and lots of feats.

Or a Paladin of Slaughter/Warmage

Or how about a rogue/assasin/ninjaspy/psiwarrior? throw in master thrower :D and you get a Naruto like running up the walls, slinging shrikens, teleporting ninja of goodness.

That could just be COOL.

Swashbuckler/Illusionist? uses his spells to make his swordplay even more impressive and intimidating. plus his high INT helps damage.

Jandor1

Fighter/Rogue Feat Varient (from UA) with VoP.

That is the feat monger.

non human with 38 feats at level 20? w00t. :D

Human with 40? now we're talking. 5 feats at level 1? mehehehe...

Plus he would have 8+ int mod skills, perfect BAB, he wouldn't need items, good reflex/fort saves, and with that many feats iron will is not out of the question.

Flavor wise, you have the perfect wandering swordsman. Like Mitsurugi from Kenshin. Just walks around, minding his buisness, and killing those foolish enough to challenge him.

to really min/max him you could throw in some monk or iaijutsu master levels...adding your intelligence mod to Armor as well as your dex and wisdom (plus the bonus from VoP) would be wonderful...
eethkoth

05-13-04, 03:20 PM
Fighter/Monk --> Weapons Master/Monk

Obviously the weapon you would master would be unarmed strikes. Aside from the weapon focus/specialization tree, take grappling and trip feats. Get in close to the wizard, grapple the sucker and pummel him for all he's worth. You get a ton of feats (particularly with the 3.5 edition of the monk), enhanced speed, unamored AC d10 hit die, a good skill list with 4 points to spend a level. It's a lot of fun. Speaking from experience.

Try this on for size: Fighter/Rogue. He slices, he dices, he makes julien fries. He's a miracle worker. with bonus feats and 8+ skills per level...

Armor check penalty? I'll give you armor check penalty!

psion/monk, or psywar/monk. Both psionic classes can survive without armor, in addition they can augment a monks natural attacks, plus of all the PHB classes monks are probably the closest flavorwise to psions.

05-19-04, 10:20 AM
Don't remember this one getting thrown out: Monk20/Spellcaster5/Shadow Adept10/Fighter5

End result is two level 20 monks, each being protected by Shield of Shadows, doing 2d10 damage plus any fighter feats to improve unarmed fighting (weapon specialization) or anything else, with some spells to augment their abilities. Plus it'd be pretty cool to see a shadow monk ;). I'm going off memory here, might need to increase spellcaster (wizard or sorcerer) levels a few, but I think I recall looking at it and thinking 5 was all that was needed.

Start with a Gloaming (Underdark race), and do a specialist wizard (Illusionist) with the variants from Unearthed Arcana. Select all 3. Then, taking lots of Search and Hide:

1 - Rogue 1 / Wizard 1
2 - Rogue 2 / Wizard 2
3 - Rogue 3 / Wizard 3
4 - Rogue 4 / Wizard 4
5 - Rogue 5 / Wizard 5
6 - Rogue 6 / Wizard 6
7 - Gatecrasher 1 / Wizard 7
8 - Gatecrasher 2 / Wizard 8
9 - Gatecrasher 3 / Wizard 9
10 - Rogue 7 / Planeshifter 1
11 - Rogue 8 / Planeshifter 2
12 - Rogue 9 / Planeshifter 3
13 - Rogue 10 / Shadowcatcher 1
14 - Rogue 11 / Shadowcatcher 2
15 - Rogue 12 / Shadowcatcher 3
16 - Rogue 13 / Shadowcatcher 4
17 - Rogue 14 / Shadowcatcher 5
18 - Rogue 15 / Shadowcatcher 6
19 - Rogue 16 / Shadowcatcher 7
20 - Rogue 17 / Shadowcatcher 8

You end up with a character with formidable Rogue skills, including the ability to make Search checks for portals and then force portals open. You also get 19 caster levels of Illusionist, heavily boosted in effectiveness via the Shadowcatcher class. In addition, the variant options of the UA Illusionist augment the Hide skill considerably, arguably better than even a Shadowdancer's abilities would. Lastly, the character gets the Planar Survival (Ex) ability, so he can function in all the odd places he may roam.

Of course, this isn't taking into account the +2 level adjustment for a Gloaming. I am assuming for this example that it would be bought off via UA optional rules.

Anyhow, thematically, it seems like fun to me.

Would you be able to set up a build balancing monk, psion, elocator, and thrallherd? That would be sweet. Float above the battlefield and have your thralls kill stuff. or even better, if your thrall is a rogue, use your elocator abilities to threaten it while you're still out of range, and then your thrall can sneak attack the hell out of it.

Of course, I have no details on this yet...
fish_heads

05-20-04, 12:18 AM
Okay, I think I figured it out. with this build, assuming you take the correct feats and skill points (I didn't note them here, but you also need to be human to get the extra feat here), you will end up as a 20th level manifester, monk 16, elocator 10, thrallherd 5, psion 9.

1 Monk/Psion
2 Monk/Psion
3 Monk/Psion
4 Monk/Psion
5 Monk/Psion
6 Psion/Thrallherd
7 Monk/Elocator
8 Psion/Elocator
9 Monk/Elocator
10 Monk/Elocator
11 Psion/Elocator
12 Monk/Thrallherd
13 Monk/Thrallherd
14 Monk/Thrallherd
15 Monk/Thrallherd
16 Monk/Elocator
17 Monk/Elocator
18 Psion/Elocator
19 Monk/Elocator
20 Monk/Elocator

Of course, as long as you take Thrallherd before elocator, you can sorta mix it up, but that's the progression I figured out. I worked it so that the psion is paired up with the prestige classes on the levels that they don't get manifesting ability boosts

Paladin of Tyranny/Enchanter Specialist (Variant).

Not only would you be able to grind into dust who ever opposes your authority, but you can easily move up the social status ladder with your mind bending spells.

I hate to say this - but it is so blatantly obvious. Paladin of Tyranny or Slaughter/Necromancer Specialist (Variant). Shadow Knight so horribly stolen from EverQuest, it makes me convulse thinking it's possible in D&D.

Fighter/XPH Soulknife - The ultimate in weapon specialization. And then there's the infinite coolness factor of a weapon that you can do this with: "Now you see it......Now you don't....Or do you?"

Monk/Rogue - Ninja incarnate without prestige classes.

Monk/Fighter - So you can make a weapon out of thin air? Well, I don't even need to do that...

This is more than just gestalt for this character concept, it came to me and made me laugh out loud...a halfling paladin wizard, with a familiar that is a phoenix (like Fawkes in Harry Potter). The halfling has the phoenix grip him by the shoulders and fly, the halfling uses a small lance and attacks with "mounted" combat techniques.

A Battle Spell Caster/Shair or Shair/Psion for flavor in a typical medieval campaign as a foreign and exotic spellcaster (while I prefer the 2E Arabian Adventures Shair the Dragon #315 will also work) or consider the rather deadly and versatile Battle Spellcaster/Psion.

Battle Spellcaster vice the UA Battle Sorcerer (Int and all known spell lists for spell choices, D8, Good BAB, Martial Weapon Choice, Light Armor proficiency with no arcane spell failure and choice of an Animal Companion or a familiar or other feat at level one and other levels as per UA).

Psion (Int) with the level 4 Psychic Reformation power and one or two feats devoted to Expanded Knowledge (for other useful discipline power access without having to spend 50 exp to constantly change the other discipline powers). For a mere 50 exp you can change your character's skills, powers, feats, known spells anew from previous levels daily or situational if necessary and no casting failure in armor and packing some really neat tricks.

Shair gens retrieving spell and basically unlimited spell access with a little waiting with some nifty feats/abilities and genies.

Add the Vow of Poverty at first level as a human or second level depending on feat choices (Say taking the MoF spell fire wielder feat or other) if you want to go Uber Itinerent Wanderer Surprise package.

With the psionic ramping and energy choices you can choose some really interesting non battle type spells for known spell caster spells.

With just two spell choices you could create your own daily food and shelter requirements while addressing many of the VoP constraints.

Obtaining spell pool access grants limited daily access to all known spells.

Taking "Anyspell and or Anyspell Greater" from PGTF with friendly wizardly associates who allow you to read his or her spell books also really increases access to more known spells.

With a few healing type spell choices you could travel as an adept/holy healer which would ensure lodging at many/most churches or local notables as PC reputation precedes and your PC becomes known for his or her generosity for free or minimal healing charges (loaf of bread, chicken, skin of wine, room for the night or a few nights.......) or lodging at the inn with some skill points in perform with magical and illusionary performances superior to the passing bard.

Paladin/Cleric/Radient Servant of Pelor... the ultimate in divine :censored: kicking. And a good party booster.

Monstrous humanoid/druid/hexblade/hexer. The ultimate voodoo doctor. Or exchange hexblade for necromancer for a more evil clut feel. :88E:

Cleric/Barbarian using the whirling frenzy variant. Dunno, just think that would really freak the crap out of some enemies. I see using two handaxes or a battleaxe and a handaxe.

Wizard 20/Monk 10/Panther Shen 10
Panther Shen PrC comes from Dragon 319, as well as the first feat this character is taking, Kung Fu Genius which allows you to use your INT instead of your WIS for all monk abilities. Panther Shen lets you at 10th level to take an AoO at an enemy whenever he misses in melee. Cast, dodge their AoO, teach whoever why they shouldn't mess with you when you're casting.

One side is Paladin20. The other side is Ftr4, Sorc1 (True Strike, Feather Fall), Dragon Disciple10, Half-Dragon Paragon 3, and then two levels of any Paladin-ish PrC that you desire.

Trick: Put your "+1 spell slot" Dragon Disciple bonuses into your Paladin spellcasting.

End result: Half-Dragon Paladin20 with HD 10d10 and 10d12, and you get a very cool concept to RP ("I am the true chosen son of Bahamut!" or something nifty like that).

Thus, I'm pretty sure it's okay.

The more frightening question becomes, what about a Cleric20//Pal9/Sor1/DD10? Ability score boosts, decent Mount, and bonus spell slots for high-level Cleric spells. That's more of a Power build than a Coolness build, though. ;)

monk/ranger - twf/flurry madness, he's also Exalted and focused on fighting undead with his ranger favored enemy. He crushes undead in melee something frightening. It also makes for an interesting wilderness monk concept.

druid/rogue - wildshape into a cat, sneak attack! oh the amusement, oh yeah... lotsa skill points and whoever would think that cat was the guy who stole the kings ransom ;-)

ranger/rogue - a great wilderness scout, tracker and huntsman, switch to urban ranger for a great in city bounty hunter type

druid/ranger - wilderness what?

swashbuckler/bard - i sing and i dance and you die with no chance... could be a fun combo for a dilettante type character

fighter/rogue - can we say a greatly skilled tactical fighter (improved trip looks awfully good now doesn't it?)

Dex is for Wimps:

Cleric 10/Contemplative 10:Ranger 20

Take Zen Archery and who cares if you have a 10 in Dex, you get all the cool Bow feats thanks to Ranger. Cleric can give you Weapon Focus (longbow) thanks to War doman. Make use of Rapid Shot knowing that your Animal Companion can still get you moving on the battlefield (and heal both of you with a single spontaneous cure spell to boot!).

Tempted to wear Heavy Armour and blow your archery? Take a Cloistered Cleric instead and revel in your Bardic Knowledge, bonus Knowledge domain access, and ability to cast Identify as a 1st level spell for free!

Grab a few levels of Human Paragon to boost your Wisdom even more.

Now for something truly BIG:

Psychic Warrior 20:Fighter 10/War Hulk 10 (or some other arrangement for the 10 levels of Fighter)

Take Enlarge as one of your Psychic Warrior powers and then take levels of the War Hulk PrC.

When you get large you get REALLY strong. When you aren't big, enjoy all of your skills and feats without the penalties of War Hulk.

+20 to Strength AND +7 BAB has got to be cool! Now that's what I would call a Form of Doom!

For pure skulking power, there is nothing to match the power of a Ranger20/Rogue20. One gets Camoflage, Hide in Plain Sight, Sneak Attack damage dice, multiple archery feats, and good skills.
Max out Spot, Listen, Search, Hide, and Move Silently. Then take all of the Archery feats that you can get your hands on, and enchant your bow to +10 status, with a maximum (dependant upon one's strength) strength bonus. So, within 30 feet (just at the edge, if you want to survive), you take a shot at an evil Fighter20/Sorcerer20 with no elemental immunities (unlikely at this level, but just go with it). (Assume Str bonus of +2) You do 1d8+2(str)+5(enhancement)+1d6 (fire)+2d6 (holy)+1d6 (acid)+ 1d6 (exit wounding)+ 10d6 (sneak attack)+ 10 (favored enemy: humans). So, you end up with 1d8+17+15d6, with a maximum damage potential (barring criticals) of 115 per hit. This may not seem like much, but with the Ranger's Hide in Plain Sight ability, one could (theoretically) do this damage FIVE TIMES A ROUND.
However, for flavor, I've always been a fan of the Spellsword. I'd personally go Dwarven Fighter 5/ Wizard 5, then go Spellsword 10/ Wizard 10, and finally go Fighter 5/ Archmage 5. It really is something when you go up against someone in shining plate armor and they turn out to be be able to blast you with Meteor Swarm whilst knocking the snot out of you with a Dwarven Waraxe. Just something funny about that...
One I've always wanted to try is a gnome Bard 10/ Wizard10 and then go Bard 10/ Gnome Artificer 10 and invent the electric guitar. Can you see it? A gnome who does Dwarven drinking songs to Jimi Hendrix riffs? How funny would that be?
Anywho, just some ideas...

Okay, so consider this one as a "super-rogue":

Ranger15 (TWF) -> Master Thrower // Rogue 15 -> Invisible Blade 5

(Obviously, you'd have to take either Master Thrower or Invisible Blade first, since you can't take both PrCs at the same time.)

Or, the classic Halfling battle rogue:

Ftr4 -> Swashbuckler 3 -> Master Thrower 5 -> Invisible Blade 5 -> Halfling Paragon 3 // Rogue20

I thought of this one while in class today.

Exalted Rogue/Cleric

The battlefield medic, keep heal maxed because you're going to be treating a LOT of people. Also, since you'll be treating soldiers from both sides, a non-lethal sneak attack does wonders for the rowdy ones.

Another one:

Fighter20/Templates

After volunteering for a magical experiment and having it go terribly wrong, your body is mutating uncontrolably. Now you are the tortured superhero! Use your fighter feats to keep up with your new abilities. Multiweapon Fighting and Flyby Attack seem like good ideas.

Fighter / Monk. All the special features of the Monk, plus the BAB to ensure you can actually reliably hit people, and slightly increased HP. Plus, all those extra feats enable you to really go to town with Complete Warrior--Fists of Iron, Eagle Claw, Pain Touch, Prone Fighting, Close-Quarters Fighting, and all the rest of it.

When you get large you get REALLY strong. When you aren't big, enjoy all of your skills and feats without the penalties of War Hulk.

+20 to Strength AND +7 BAB has got to be cool! Now that's what I would call a Form of Doom!

No, it is in the Miniatures Handbook. Also, to qualify for this class you have to naturally be large or larger. I don't think a power/spell will allow it. However I DO loke the idea. Hmmmm.....

Paladin Monk 10 / Pious Templar Monk 10.

The most superhumanly-dedicated character possible. You're also pretty much invulnerable to anything that requires a saving throw, you've got a good AC, some Damage Reduction, and the ability to heal yourself in several different ways.

Ranger/Rogue. The best bounty hunter or assassin build possible. You can sneak, you can track, and you can break stuff. Be sure to take the Urban Tracking feat and keep both Survival and Gather Information maxed out-- you can find anything.

If evil, you could replace Rogue with Assassin once you qualify-- but I don't see the point of doing so.

Paladin/Favored Soul. Huge Charisma synergy, and all good saving throws. You're a representative of your deity's might-- both in your strong sword arm and in your magical prowess. At tenth level, if you're willing to give up wings and weapon specialization, you can switch to Paladin/Contemplative, and become even more otherwordly.

Monk, paladin, vow of poverty feat.
You need no equipment, great fighting class, and can cast divine spells, not to mention getting a cool mount, and all the perks of Vow of Poverty (all the little people love you because you share the spoils of your adventures with them, all very Robin Hood like).

Monk 1/ Warmage 4/ Dweomerkeeper 10/ War Mage (PrC) 3/ Spell Dancer 1/ Mystic Wanderer 1 //
Cleric 1/ Favored Soul 19

VoP, Monk AC and saves, Wish 4 times per day (Sp), Charisma to AC (or saves, can't remember add in 3 levels of Pally for both if AC), Int mod to spell damage dice +3/ damage die

For a more martial/melee feel, replace Favored Soul with Paladin

Assuming that you are taking your class options from sources other than the players handbook.

Marshal/Paladin-commander of the holy host. Perhaps a bit too Diablo. But I like it.

Barbarian/Warmage-You might consider adding levels of the Rage Mage PrC to this but I think that there is a rule prohibiting gestalt characters from advancing in PrC's that are essentially class combos already. But that's okay, I consider taking PrC's akin to Munchkinism anyway.

I'll try the Fighter-Psion

Druid 20/Monk1/Rogue19 - You get all those fun monk things w/out losing a level in Druid. I was playing a Dru/Rogue in a recent campaign, it can really gimp the Druid to give up lvls, but when I got to be a rogue, it was a blast! I didn't like to draw blood, so the GM would let me castShillelagh on my Sap, I was tumbling Druid with Sneak Attack! The two work very well together except for the shapechange loss.

Race:
Feral Anthromorphic Giant Squid (Air Variant Race from UA)
Str +12, Dex +6, Con +0, -4 Int, +6 Wis, -4 Cha
LA +2
Buy-off LA at 9th and 12th level (21000 xp in total)

3 Monsterous Humanoid HD/Fighter 2/War Hulk 10/Hulking Hurler 3/Fighter 2
Cleric 20

Feel free to use your favourite cleric build to multiclass the cleric side, although -4 charisma cramps the style of Divine-feat heavy builds.

Thuis build takes the Anthromorphic giant squid (8 tentacle attacks with 15-foot reach) out of the water (Breathless from the air variant race), gives it pounce, rake, and rend (feral), gives it +20 strength (on-top of the racial bonus, for total of +32), Clerical Buffing (Divine Power, Rhiteous Might, ETC)

Add Multigrab and Improved Multigrab so that you can grapple 7 creatures simultaniously at no penalty (8 if you're willing to use your last tentacle, losing your 15-foot reach for AOOs). Combat reflexes allow you extra AOOs to grapple incoming opponents with. With Hulking Hurler's Really throw anything ability, you could probably even throw opponents you grapple (not sure about the rules on this though).

I have this idea of a Druid/Bard sea captain. She is the ultimate charmer/leader of men as well as a sea captain with weather control. Sings raunchy sea chanties, and 'leave the crowd weeping' ballads. Swims like a fish, literally. Likes wearing pearls.

Monk 20/Paladin 5/Pious Templar 5/Kensai 10

Saves are outstanding from all good saves for monk, plus add your Wis mod and Cha mod from monk and paladin classes, respectively. And don't worry about those pesky "save for partial" spells, etc - evasion + mettle takes care of those. You get some spells from both Paladin and Templar. If you want more spells, add some Templar levels instead of Kensai. Kensai signature weapon is unarmed (of course) and you can enhance them as +10 (+5 enhancement +5 worth of special abilities) by the time you hit level 20. DR is 1/- and 10/magic. Lay on Hands from paladin + wholeness of body from monk = only need clerics healing when you are *really* in trouble. Oh, and don't forget smiting from paladin & templar. Isn't there a weapon special ability that gives smiting? Maybe tack that on with Kensai.

I like the concept of Gestalt Characters myself. Combining two classes opens up a lot of interesting character opportunities.

For example, I like the Paladin/Monk. I'm just diggin' the concept of a guy who can smite the forces of evil with his kung fu instead of a Holy Avenger. Maybe he was taught his fighting style by the priesthood of his chosen god in the hopes of forging him into a powerful champion of good.

Because he uses unarmed strikes, maybe one of his points of pride is the fact that he can end a fight effectively without resorting to killing and bloodshed. In fact, the only time this character uses the lethal disciplines of his order is when he's up against a foe of irredeemable evil, such as a fiend, an evil dragon, or an undead horror -- and against such foes, he is quite literally a holy terror.

I've been tinkering around with the quintessential bladesinger myself. Here's the rough outline I have at the moment.

1st: Wizard/Ranger
2nd: Wizard/Ranger
3rd: Wizard/Ranger
4th: Wizard/Ranger
5th: Wizard/Fighter
6th: Bladesinger/Fighter
7th: Bladesinger/Wizard
8th: Bladesinger/Swashbuckler
9th: Bladesinger/Wizard
10th: Bladesinger/Swashbuckler
11th: Bladesinger/Wizard
12th: Bladesinger/Swashbuckler
13th: Bladesinger/Wizard
14th: Bladesinger/Elf Paragon
15th: Bladesinger/Elf Paragon
16th: Havoc Mage/Elf Paragon
17th: Havoc Mage/Bard
18th: Havoc Mage/Wizard
19th: Havoc Mage/Ranger
20th: Havoc Mage/Ranger

This assumes the ranger is adopting the archery style of Combat Mastery as a rogue, too, in order to not only fill in the whole quintessential elf goodness, but to make him a little more versatile.

It seems a pretty good build in theory so far. The Havoc Mage and Bladesinger really gel together nicely, and the build maintains full Wizard spell progression to the end and has a BAB of +19/+14/+9/+4 (fractional) all while keeping up with that elven vibe. Saving throws are killer, too. On top of that, Intelligence is affecting your spellcasting, your AC, and your damage all at the same time... wonder which sort of ability score boosts this character would be most after? :D

I might end up readjusting some of the level progressions before I'm done, but overall I thought it was going to be a fun character (especially since I normally despise elves, but love stereotypical characters).

No, it's bard. One more full BAB progression wouldn't net me anything since we use the fractional BAB rules, so a dedicated warrior class wouldn't net me anything. That particular level of the Havoc Mage also includes a spellcasting level increase, so another level of Wizard would have been completely wasted. The Havoc Mage has both Fortitude and Will as good saving throws, so Barbarian wouldn't really help (especially since Rage sucks for a dedicated caster like this), an odd Fighter level would only get a BAB boost, and a Paladin of Freedom (while an interesting option) just didn't seem to fit quite so well with what I had in mind. If I did go Paladin of Freedom, I'd replace the last two Ranger levels with it as well.

After looking at all of those options, I next considered the Rogue class, but the Bard ended up seeming more fitting for the concept with its bardic music as well as (by pumping a bunch of skill points that level into it) letting me get a greatly improved Perform skill or two.

I guess I could also replace it with the Rogue variant that uses Fighter feats in place of Sneak Attack damage. Can't go wrong with an extra feat. But again, the boost to the Reflexes and Will saving throw and the class features just seemed to fit better to me.
