| Xabre01-12-06, 02:34 PM | I was wondering if anyone plays with Craft Points from UA? I'm thinking about playing an Artificer, and I showed the rules quickly to my GM, and he liked the idea. I just was wondering if people have had experiences with these rules. Are they overpowered? Decent? Weak? My Gm tends to run games with little to no downtime, which makes it hard to be an effective item creator. |
| Cymraegmorgan01-12-06, 02:41 PM | In my CS, I use the following, and it works quite well. CRAFT POINTS A character's craft points equal 10% of her total experience point gain, minus any craft points already spent. All characters gain craft points. Non crafting characters can assist a crafter and cover up to 50% of the craft point cost. |

Well, your system works about the same way as the primary... i guess the real question then becomes: do you still award bonus craft points which each Item Creation feat? One of the things I'm worried about is my Gm saying that a 5th level Artificer would start with 100 + 200 + 300 + 400 + 500 + 1500 (brew potion) + 500 (Scroll) + 1500 (Wondrous Item) + 2500 (Magic Arms & Armor) = 7500 craft points... |

I created a feat to get bonus CP, and I do not play Eberron, so I nothing of Artificers. But 7500 CP does not sound outlandish for a character whose focus is the creation of magic items. That can get used up pretty fast. |

The feat is 'Talented Crafter', I think... each time you take it, you gain 500 CP. 7500 CP = 75000 gp worth of magical item crafting. At 5th level, an Artificer only has 9000 gp... 18000 gp Market Value. :P Translation: About 4 times more Craft Points than I can afford. :) |
| Cymraegmorgan01-12-06, 11:16 PM | INSPIRE CRAFTS [ITEM CREATION] (A) Prerequisite: You must have used a portion of your craft points, either by crafting or assisting. Benefit: You gain a number of craft points equal to your class levels multiplied by 100. You may take this feat multiple times. This is the feat I use, and when crafting I exchange, one for one, XP cost for CP. I might not have been clear on that earlier. |
| DM_Dracophile01-26-06, 02:36 PM | I got a bit muddled reading through the whole Crafting Point variant system. Is it to be used to replace Mage XP expenditure when crafting magic items? If so, that sounds grand and I'll have to take a closer look. If not, is there a system to replace XP expenditure? I've always loathed that. I understand the mechanics of it, and how it provides a control to item production...but it makes little IC sense to me. It practically demands that any wizard who would dare to scribe a scroll, make a potion, or make any other magic item, periodically go out adventuring...killing monsters, etc. ie., you retire from adventuring and suddenly can no longer scribe a scroll or make a magic item. Just silly. Then you factor in groups like the Thayans from the FRCS, who apparently make items all the time and it just gets baffling. What, do they spend the morning slaughtering orcs and then do a shift at the magic item factory later to burn off the XP? LOL Anything we can do to get rid of, or transmute, the item creation xp thing sounds like a winner to me |
