I am planning on using the Spontaneous Metamagic variant from UA, which would make wizards a bit more adaptable, but I feel like they could use more. I haven't decided if I should apply it to all prep casters, or just wizards, whom I always felt were underpowered at low levels. What I was thinking was lifting the daily spell lists as described in Spell Recharge (so a lvl 5 wizard with 18 Int can select 4 lvl 0, 4 lvl 1, 3 lvl 2, and 2 lvl 3 spells out of his spell book every day to cast as she sees fit) but without the recharge- so she will still be limited to the normal number of spells per day, in any combination from the daily list. To balance the spontaneous casters, they would receive one extra spell per day for every level they can cast except their highest. Does this seem balanced? Has anyone tried this kind of variant or the spontaneous metamagic system? |
