Then if the players would like to father improve there defense bonus they can take a series of 3 feats that each grant a farther +1 to defense. Now I probably won't get to play test till my current campaign ends so any feedback is welcome. |

| MythMage11-27-04, 04:53 PM | I was considering adding such a mechanic to my own game. It seems to me that characters should be able to learn how to dodge and the like after fighitng enough to gain a few levels. I think that the bonus should definintely be a dodge bonus, or perhaps a luck bonus. Don't you have to be lucky to survive dungeon-delving or the like for that long? Also, it really seems like it would help epic games, where PCs' AC increases much more slowly than enemy attack bonuses. |
| Wil Harvey11-27-04, 05:02 PM | I've thought of doing it, but it requires so much work to really do it properly. With varying defense bonuses, suddenly the balance between classes gets thrown out of whack. Then the balance between classes and monsters get thrown out of whack. And if it were to be done well, like varying defense bonuses for different monster types, similar CR monsters would be out of whack. Instead, I choose to play the game as it is, and just lament that next time WotC will actually design a system with this mechanic. The idea that characters get better at attacking things, but don't get better at defending themselves is just ridiculous. |
