rogda_cllyn 12-04-06, 06:27 PM	this is an idea one of my players had and i don't see anything wrong with it right now, i've only read over it a couple times but my area of expertise is definetly not in the area of clerics or spell casting, or turning, or necromancy so i was wondering what you all thought of it. oh yeah, i have to give him credit (personal code) so here it is "Divine Challenge" by aemios ritiar Divine Challenge When two clerics of opposite alignment meet in battle, most likely they will challenge eachother to a divine contest. Each one shows their holy symbol to the other. By tradition, each cleric waits for the enemy to show their holy symbol, and when both do, they begin channeling their diety's will. Each becomes a conduit of power from their diety, and are surrounded by a protective barrier containing the two priests inside. No magic can go in or go out . Each round, the clerics utulize a turn/rebuke undead. They focus on the check, and the check forms an armor around themselves. When they have their check, they then roll for damage + Wisdom Modifier. The damage is then delt to the enemy cleric's divine shield. Each round, the cleric maintains their shield by adding another turning check's worth of health to the shield. Every round, the shield takes damage, and when a cleric's shield falls, the cleric then falls to the ground, stunned for 2d4 rounds, half with a fortitude of 10+Enemy Cleric Level+Enemy WIS Mod. It tends to be dramatic, and in our case, it would stop the necromancer and the healer from participating in their battle. An odd trade-off. Tell me what you think. -- - Aemios Ritair

Ultimately, to me, and this is just my opinion, it seems about as silly as that scene in "The Mummy" where Benny is going through all of his holy symbols and making a different prayer with each one to turn Imhotep away.

Krusk 12-08-06, 01:31 AM	i think it sounds kind of cool, as long as its not a manditory thing. I can see the lawful clerics making challenges, and chaotic or evil clerics simply not abiding by them. round 1 Cleric of pelor holds out holy symbol Cleric of gruumsh scores crit with arrow! But it could be very cool, might even make sense depending on how you see spells such as scorching ray and flamestrike working. If you see them as out of the clerics hands, or you see the cleric clutching the symbol and shooting the rays from it.
