my DM's house rulls forbids the use of the charm spell which gives the caster or any character a +10 charisma bonus in relation to a target...

my DM thinks this spell is too powerful to 1st level characters thus he won't let us use this magic.

does your DM make house rulls like that and do you think these kind of rulls should be made??

It's perfectly on par with the 3rd-level spell that gives +30 to the same checks.

DM houserulings can be the death of a good game. Often they are brought into play without properly understanding the rules, or the effect that houserule will have on the game as a whole. Charm Person isnt a very powerful spell, and is in fact on par with the rest of the first level spells in the book. I wont bother explaining how, as it should be evident with a good understanding of the rules of the game and magic, as well as a good read of the spell itself. And I am too tired.

Its not so powerfull at all, its just makes one --humanoid-- more friendly, he won't fight your battles, he won't give you stuff for free, and you cant command him, just a friend.

I agree with the Master Thrower here... the spell itself is not too powerful at all. If you follow the rules for social interaction as presented in the game (I think that they can be found in the Diplomacy skill description). You can't control the person, they just think that you're the coolest thing since cone of cold.

The spell is fine, it's balanced, and it's not too powerful. It's all about how the DM let's players use or abuse it. I wouldn't take it out of the game, but unfortunately that's your DM's call. If you can't convince him otherwise, you'll either have to live with it, or find a new group.
