I am going to start a game soon. The group is three players, and the DM. As there are only three players, the DM wants to try out the Gestalt option.

Here is the character creation process: 32 point buy for stats. Max hit points for the first 3 levels. Any base class and LA 0 race is OK.

I was thinking of doing a Monk/Swordsage. What does everyone think of this? I was planning on being Human, but I am open to suggestions on the race. Heck, any suggestions are OK right now.

All I know about the other players is one is a ranger/ ??, and the other is a psionic (not psion, I don't know what kind)/??. Or, maybe she is a psion/something, I don't know.

I am leaving it up to the other players to cover the healing and casting.

So, any suggestions? Anything you want to suggest is welcome. Thanks.

Personally, I would go for a monk/cleric. Using your spells to memorize a few Inflict spells could really help out with your ability to do damage. You would need to hit normally, but you can make touch spells as normal weapon attacks if you hit a standard AC and deal your weapon damage as well as the touch spell damage. Your 3rd level monk/cleric would be able to hit for 1d6+Str bonus AND 2d8+3 in one round with a simple Inflict Moderate Wounds spell. On the flip side, being able to hit with a simple touch attack and deal damage when your unarmed strikes are unnaffective would be nice too. Not to mention, the effects of Shield of Faith, Bulls Strength, Owls Wisdom, Righteous Might, etc, on your durability.

Even if your group has a seperate cleric, I would suggest this. It is always a good thing to have multiple people who can heal. Especially in a small group. Staying Lawful Neutral would allow you to choose to spontaneously convert to healing spells when necessary if you were a backup healer who focused on playing a buffed melee character. The options provided to you with clerics spells and a speedy, unencumbered monk could be fun to play out. The silence spell could allow you to play as the scout for the party, and a fully buffed monk complete with resists could be a nasty opponent for any encounter.

I agree with the usefulness of the Monk/Cleric. It is pretty nice combo. But, I was looking for something more.

I am still thinking the Monk/Swordsage would be fun. However, I am wondering if the Monk/Warblade wouldn't be nice, too? Or, I could go with the Monk/Crusader, and have the healing manuevers as well.

I am also considering the Cleric/Crusader. Take some of the White Raven disciplines for the party buffing help, and the spells, sounds pretty nice.

Anyone else have some ideas?

Well, I went with the Swordsage/Warblade. Turned out real nice, too. Thanks for all the help.
