It gives sorcerers more spells known, and I'd probably rule that it doesn't increase your number of spell slots at each level, but it gives you a themed sorcerer character, adding at least a little flavor to what seems to me to be an otherwise wholly lacking class. What do you think? |

There isn't a whole lot in UA aimed at Sorcerers (and we've got a long wait until Complete Arcane). Another thing I was toying with was allowing Sorcerer characters to choose an appropriate "Minor Bloodline" as a freebie. By appropriate, I mean Dragon, Outsider, etc. (not Minotaur or Troll) It would be based on Sorcerer level, rather than Character level, with no requirement for taking a "Bloodline" level before 12th level. If a player wants to pick a stronger Bloodline of an appropriate type, they can ignore the 12th level requirement if they have at least 4 levels of Sorcerer. Actually, though, I think the Domain Wizard might have a drawback. The description under spellcasting is a bit vague. It says that they gain "one bonus spell per spell level, which must be filled with the spell from that level of the domain spell list". I don't know if it's a typo and the word "slot" is missing after "bonus spell" (i.e. they get an extra spell slot like Specialists do), or if in exchange for learning a new spell for free and casting it at a higher level, they have to dedicate a spell slot they already have to a domain spell. If the Domain Wizard grants an extra spell, extra spell slot and the ability to cast that spell at a higher level, there's really no reason to not choose Domain Wizard over regular Wizard. MadBlue |
| DarkTouch02-22-04, 11:10 AM | Though it's not the way the domain Wizard is portrayed in UA, I think my favored part of the domain structure came from the Cleric/Druid section where it discussed the idea of using those lists as spontaneous casting lists. So a cleric would need to take the healing domain to get spontaneous cure/heal spells.. etc. I'd then carry that over to the wizard. The down side for Sorcerers is that ALL of their spells are already spontaneous so domains have no place for them. |

Actually it has already been implemented here (http://members.tripod.com/vrylakos/classes/sorcerer_domain_system.htm) |
| Raging Halfling02-23-04, 12:01 AM | Wow, somebody put some really extensive work into that. That's going to take a while for me to wade through! My idea was much simpler: just use the UA wizard domains for sorcerers for bonus spells known without adding spells per day. Still, I'll have to give it a serious look. |
| Xorial02-23-04, 09:56 AM | After reading the arcane domains in UA, the first thing that came to mind was this belongs with the sorcerer, not the wizard. I also toyed with the idea of giving the minor bloodline stuff to the sorcerer for free. Maybe the intermediate even. Then provide an appropriate choice of domain, based on bloodline. I was dissapointed that the bloodline stuff from Dragon wasnt included for the sorcerer. Included & expanded on, I should say. I just thought that the sorcerer would have a natural affinity for a certain type of casting. Divination might run in the family. Most seers are portrayed as rural folk, which would be a sorcerer, not some learned Diviner, ala specialist wizard. |
| ikki02-23-04, 10:50 AM | looks nice, but why any other spells than the domain ones? Perhaps getting a domain at 1st, 5th, 10th and 20th level? No other known spells. Other stats as per monk (afterall your spell selection can be rather pathetic... try surviving levels 1 to 3 on detect thoughts). Spells castable: sorcerer+1 |
