Domain Wizards, why not? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-17-04, 02:37 PM If domain wizards are allowed, is there any conceivable reason not to be one? They get domain spells like a cleric, with an extra spell of each level, with no prohibited schools. Is there any disadvantage at all?

I think that the domain wiz is a good concept and should be applied to all casters. THIS INCLUDES SORCERERS.

03-17-04, 06:19 PM I give sorcerers something similar to domains for free. They get an extra spell known at each spell leve taken from a list depending on their "bloodline" (not the same as bloodlines in UA). At levels 5, 10, 15, and 20 they get a free feat appropriate to that bloodline. This is from an article in Dragon 311.

Having given them that boost, I replace wizard specialists with domain wizards (and there's no reason not to be one). They don't get the +1 to caster level on domain spells, but they can treat them as if they have spell mastery for them. Since a spellbook isn't absolutely necessary then (you can always just prepare domain spells) I encourage wizards to leave their books at home so that nothing bad happens to them. They must therefore prepare their non-domain spells ahead of time, or make scrolls for them. With this challenge-disguised-as-a-blessing, I think they deserve the extra spell per day that the domain gives them.

03-17-04, 06:45 PM It is a free power up for wizards without a penalty attached. If you want to balance it, strip a domain wizard of his bonus feats.

IIRC that's a divine caster. The Wu Jen is the arcane spellcaster.
