Meaning, 1st level is more like 9th, 2nd like 10th, and 3rd like 11th? I started by making it similar to Monstrous Humanoid hit dice, adding a few more relevant class skills (and the standard Craft/Profession). Most paragon classes have their own enhanced vision, but I thought this variation was more fitting. Besides, a PC doppelganger going for form utility over subtelty and guile will probably favor Lizardfolk or Troglodyte for their tough hide and natural attacks (it seems that a 3.5e doppelganger loses its natural armor in addition to its slam attacks in other forms). The best vision I've seen in a humanoid is a Svirfneblin's 120' darkvision with low-light vision, or an aquatic elf's quadruple range low-light vision (while the doppelganger retains its own darkvision 60'). As for that last ability, that'll give NPCs a greater advantage (CR6+) than a PC (ECL11+). A 15th level spellcaster has an edge over an ECL15 PC with 14 ranks in Bluff, but DM-controlled Doppelganger Paragons will give the PCs that much more trouble. That seems fitting enough from my perspective. d8 4+IntMod Bluff, Craft, Diplomacy, Disguise, Forgery, Gather Information, Intimidate, Knowledge (nobility and royalty), Listen, Profession, Sense Motive, Speak Language, and Spot. BAB: Best/Ftr Saves: Ref and Will Level 1: Ability Focus: A Doppelganger Paragon gains this as a bonus feat, applying the benefit to its Detect Thoughts ability. Skilled Deception (Ex): A Doppelganger Paragon's racial bonus on Bluff and Disguise checks increases to +6. Level 2: Adopt Vision (Ex): A Doppelganger Paragon retains at least its own 60' darkvision, but its vision may be enhanced depending on the form assumed via Change Shape. If the assumed form has darkvision with a range greater than 60', the Doppelganger Paragon does, too. If it has low light vision, the Doppelganger Paragon obtains low-light vision of the same degree. The ability to see what its unwitting fellows do helps in maintaining a disguise over the long term and rouses fewer suspicians. This ability does not, however, provide other benefits or penalties related to vision or sensory capability (such as gaze attacks, blindsense, or scent). A Doppelganger Paragon can gain an advantage by assuming the form of an underdark race, but that may cause more problems than it solves if not careful. And what Doppelganger Paragon wouldn't be careful? Level 3: Undetectable Lies (Su): Anyone attempting to uncover the lie of a Doppelganger Paragon with a discern lies spell or similar effect must beat an opposed roll using the caster level of the effect against the Doppelganger Paragon's ranks in the Bluff skill. |
