| Count Arioch the 28th06-08-04, 06:00 PM | In my game, I use the Magic Ratings alternate rule, and the Expanded psionics handbook. Therefore, I am writng some rules to encompass those rules. This is my first draft at combining these rules, if there is something inherently broken about them, let me know before I put the final version in my game. Psi will be using the magic rating along with every other class. (MAgic-psi transperency is the rule of my world, therefore, magic ratings and psi ratings will be interchangable for the most part.) Psion, Wilder, and Psychic warrior will go on the best magic rating progression, Soulknife will be medium. The maigc rating will determine how high you can augment your psionic abilities, and at what manifester level they are manifested, although it does not affect the amount of PP you have a day. Any race with psi-like abilities will instead use their magic rating to determine their manifester level, instead of the formulas given in the XPH. Is there anything broken that I'm missing? <Note: Snarky comments about psi-magic transperancy will either be ignored or mocked, depending on what kind of mood I'm in.:smirk:> |

(The amount of power than can be expended to manifest a power is equal to manifestor level.) Augmented powers often get a lot more out of higher manifestor level than spells do out of caster level, especially the lower level powers versus low level spells. On the other hand the effect of higher caster level is automatic while it costs extra to augment a power. I think it ballances out pretty well, though it'd probably require a little more playtesting to be sure. |

A side effect of my rules is that a multiclassed psion can augment it pretty high if his magic rating is high enough, however, he will run through his points much, much faster than a straight psion. It's an oddity that doesn't exist with divine and arcane casters using magic ratings, however, I kind of see limited power points as kind of a needed thing for psionics, so I think I'll keep it the way I have it, unless playtesting shows something I haven't realized. |
