This isn't quite what it sounds, but it's a mix of geuine multiclassing mixed with gestalting and is sorta like the old dual classing thing humans use to do.

Basic setup:

1)Take two classes, one primary, and one that will serve as secondary. This starts from first level (sorta like gestalting).
2) Alter your exp chart by 1.5. This means lvl 2 requires 1500 exp, etc, etc.
3) Pick out a portion of the secondary class that you want - that's what you get as you level!

More detailed info:

Basically, I both like and dislike the current system. I like the ability to be a little more selective of benefits, but DnD isn't quite like that. This system was to try and help provide a sort of mixing of classes where you can get some benefits at a cost of more experience to level (thus needs more battles, and hopefully sorta reflect the change without having to alter other battles too much).

As far as taking abilities of other classes, I had a few rules in mind.
1) Not everything is for sale, or at full power. Each class has one trait it keeps always, so there is incentive to take that as your main job. Fighters keep their feats, taking spellcasting from the main casters only gives you partial progression (or upgrades your current if you had partial, going from poor (ranger/paladin), medium (bard), full (wizard/sorcerer/cleric/etc), and so on. In some cases, class combo's may make something better to take than it would be for another, or some options aren't available (a sorcerer/wizard can't take extra spellcasting, and a wizard/sorcerer can't either).

The downsides to this system are probably obvious at this point: what can an can't be taken, and what limits do you set!? I already determined to put BAB and saves together as one packet if it's wanted (so you can upgrade your combat ability, a good reason to borrow fighter for secondary at times), some classes get good abilities that grow, while others get a set of them that work well together but aren't actually a packet.

Thoughts, suggestions, idle thoughts?
