02-19-04, 04:19 PM Bree-Yark is from Keep on the Borderlands! I did notice this in my first read of UA, and I loved it.

IIRC, in the old module, on a rumor chart there's knowledge the PC's can learn that in the goblin tongue Bree-Yark means "we surrender", but it's a false clue, it really menas something like "let's kill them all."

My copy says 'Hey Rube' which, my understanding is, usually a carny rallying cry, 'fight here, everyone come on and beat the stuffing out of the intruder.'

02-20-04, 02:03 AM Speaking of Easter eggs, I'm pretty sure that one of the incantations is a reference to the Cthulhu mythos. The incantation "Call Forth the Dweller" summons an entity known as the "Dweller on the Threshold." In the 1940s, author August Derleth published a couple of Cthulhian stories called "The Dweller in Darkness" and "Beyond the Threshold." Furthermore, the being that the incantation summons is described as "an inky mass of tentacles and mouths," which is almost exactly how a lot of Cthulhian monsters are described. Coincidence? I think not.
