Some people argue that the Favored Soul is overpowered, and others argue that it's underpowered. I'm not really here to argue either point (nor will I even discuss my personal views on this). What I *am* here to do is discuss a minor change to the Favored Soul class to allow an expansion of both flavor and individuality.

Clerics gain domains based on their deity, and this allows one of the very few ways for a Cleric to feel "unique" in any way. Favored Souls don't really fall into this category as much, considering the vast amount of spells available to choose from and the few that they're capable of knowing. Few Favored Souls are going to share a common list of spells known, but even fewer are going to share a list that has a real reflection of their deity.

The change is this: A Favored Soul may treat all domain spells available to his deity as being on his class list for the purposes of learning new spells known and activating spell trigger items.

I don't think it's a bad idea. It adds flavor and is not overpowered.

We did a similar thing wherein a favored soul could pick a domain from his deity that he could derive spells and benefits, but *had* to choose one domain spell from each spell level obtained. Thus, a character getting a domain would also need to take some flavor spells that he may or not have chosen strategically.

Occasionally there are things that don't fit such as turn undead bonuses for sun domain. But it worked and satisfied everyone.

You're still stuck with a spells known limit. Sounds fine.
