Problem is, the fighter is the only one who gets a decent amount of them. Surely an archmage of 20th level would have more skills than just 10 feats worth! That'll get a good amount of metamagic feats, and a few item creation feats, but there's got to be more to that character than just magicmagicmagic? In his spare time, he may fuel his raging thoughts, giving him more fury in battle (possible Power Attack?). Perhaps this mage uses his high intelligence to figure more logic in battle, using angles of deflection and such to increace defensive skills (possible Combat Expertise?). Or maybe a So, what I do with my games is that I allow extra expert traning for time, money, and experience costs. After around 3 weeks of practice (include addition of daily activities and normal practice), around 100 gold, and a little bit of EXP, I allow players to pick up extra feats. Is this idea any good? Would you use it in your games? |

| Phoenix Knight05-23-06, 06:00 PM | The Open Minded feat gives 5 skill points in exchange for the feat. If you were going to allow something like this, I suppose this would be the base. |
| Tuah05-23-06, 06:31 PM | Ah yes, the idea of skill points is much better! :D Thanks for your help, both of you! |
| Braids05-23-06, 10:43 PM | Well, there is a systm I'm planning to use which increases the number of ability boosts and feats while lowering the amount of GP players get. I haven't decided on a percent, but feats are every odd level and ability boosts are every even level. |
| Archangel6205-24-06, 02:43 AM | Well, I'm currently working on feat training rules in my game, skills are simple 500 per rank class skill 1000 per rank cross class skill 1 Day per rank |

I haven't decided on a percent, but feats are every odd level and ability boosts are every even level. An ability boost and feat every other level is very powerful. You will have to give your players almost nothing to possibly balance this. As for the Open minded feat, since ability scores aren't balanced for a bonus to 1 equals a penalty to any other, neither should this. Instead of trading 5 skill points to get a feat, it should by slightly higher, maybe 8-10 skill points. |
