| TheDragonmaster05-02-05, 05:52 AM | I, as a DM, wanted to introduce a über-highpowered gameplay idea: Gestalt classing in both a normal (or PrC) class, and in a monster class (Savage Species). Would anyone of you out there even think this would be reasonable? |
| DM Zoc05-02-05, 06:29 AM | Yeah, it's fair. Some interpretations are that it is already how the rules work, allowing you to gestalt against non-hit-die levels. The problem is that it heavily rewards low-hit-die-high-LA races. |
| Fargren05-02-05, 09:06 PM | Just have in count that if a player advances in a PrC that increases caster level at the same time he indreases his casting class, he'll advnace in caster level twice as fast. Awizard/cleric/mistyc theurge would be the ultimate charcater, since he can has the casting abilitie of a cleric of his levle, plus the casting ability ofa wizard of level+his theurge levels. That's so broken, but if that's what you want, go for it. |

Would anyone of you out there even think this would be reasonable?I think it's a bad idea. The trouble, among other things, is that you can specialize in your niche better than a normal gestalt character. A balancing factor in gestalt classes is that it's difficult to two things at once, so when you're using the class abilities of one side, you aren't using the other abilities very much. Conversely, if you decide to take two classes that fulfill the same niche, the overlapping that occurs balances things out (a Fighter/Paladin doesn't get better BAB, more skills, better saves, etc.). But you can pick a monster class that will simply enhance your abilities in your niche. And that makes it better, and unbalanced. |

Mystic Theurge, Eldritch Knight, and Arcane Trickster (as well as anything else which is a generic PrC designed to allow for funny multiclassing) are specifically disallowed during gestalt play. |
| olshanski_home05-04-05, 06:46 PM | You'd probably want to be something like a raksasha/sorcerer... in which raksasha has levels that stack with sorcerer levels... Or else you'd be a dragon/sorcerer for the same reason. |
| Koy Manus05-04-05, 07:24 PM | like DM Zoc said, the monster levels in which you don't gain hitdice realy would not be balanced (because you would be getting hitdice form your other class anyways). you could try not giving the hp, BAB, or skill points of your charicter class for those monster levels in which you don't gain hitdice. though I'm not entirly sure how well that would work |
| DM Zoc05-04-05, 07:29 PM | You'd probably want to be something like a raksasha/sorcerer... in which raksasha has levels that stack with sorcerer levels... Or else you'd be a dragon/sorcerer for the same reason. That also doesn't work. Though a Rakshasa casts a sorcerer of level equal to its hit dice, this would be wasted if you took sorcerer levels. Though the official ruling is that class levels stack with racial ability to cast for normal games, the gestalt rules prevent a Rakshasa (7 hit dice, LA +7)/ Sorcerer 14 from casting as a level 21 caster. Each racial hit die (or is it the LA? I haven't seen the progression in a while) gives you "+1 to sorcerer casting ability," which is the same thing you get at each level of sorcerer; when you get the same ability from both classes, you only get the better of the two (they don't stack). |
