It was funny that the day before this (http://community.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=682555) was posted, that I was contemplating something almost identicle. I was worried that all the new feats out there were making players feeld ripped off by not having enough feats to get what they feel are necessary feats to complete their vision of their character. Below is what I will use in my game as the new character level progression for getting feats:

1st Feat
2nd
3rd Feat
4th
5th Feat
6th
7th Feat
8th
9th Feat
10th
11th Feat
12th
13th Feat
14th
15th Feat
16th
17th Feat
18th
19th Feat
20th

It really doesnt change anything in the game until 5th level, and only gives 3 more feats oiver the 20 levels. This does make changes needed for the rewrite that I gave the Fighter. I originally posted this idea over 2 years ago, but others have used it & come up with it on their on too.

Fighter
1st Feat
2nd Feat
3rd
4th Feat
5th Feat
6th
7th Feat
8th Feat
9th
10th Feat
11th Feat
12th
13th Feat
14th Feat
15th
16th Feat
17th Feat
18th
19th Feat
20th Feat

This doesnt mesh well with the revised character progression. I made this so that Fighters would get a feat every level. Now to accomplish that, I will be giving them back to their old chart. This will be a let down to fighters in my campaign, so I am thinking of adding just a bit to the class to give back something.

1st Feat, Weapon Focus
2nd Feat
3rd
4th Feat, Weapon Specialization
5th
6th Feat
7th
8th Feat, Improved WS
9th
10th Feat
11th
12th Feat, Greater WS
13th
14th Feat
15th
16th Feat, Weapon Mastery
17th
18th Feat
19th
20th Feat, Weapon Grand Mastery

The feats listed above are what I use in place of the normal Weapon Focus/Spec tree.

WEAPON FOCUS [GENERAL]
Choose one type of weapon. You can also choose unarmed strike or grapple (or ray, if you are a spellcaster) as your weapon for purposes of this feat.
Prerequisites: Proficiency with selected weapon, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on all attack and damage rolls you make using the selected weapon.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of weapon.
A fighter may select Weapon Focus as one of his fighter bonus feats. He must have Weapon Focus with a weapon to gain the Weapon Specialization feat for that weapon.

WEAPON SPECIALIZATION [GENERAL]
Choose one type of weapon for which you have already selected the Weapon Focus feat. You can also choose unarmed strike or grapple as your weapon for purposes of this feat. You deal extra damage when using this weapon.
Prerequisites: Proficiency with selected weapon, Weapon Focus with selected weapon, fighter level 4th.
Benefit: Your bonus is +2 on all attack and damage rolls you make using the selected weapon.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of weapon.
A fighter may select Weapon Specialization as one of his fighter bonus feats.

Some may notice the confusion that could arise from Feat names in PHII. No worries, I just call Melee Weapon Mastery & Ranged Weapon Mastery (from PHII) the same, but drop the word Weapon from it. Melee Mastery & Ranged Mastery.

My plan is that the fighter still be the premeir combatant. The Warblade (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060802a&page=2) from ToB: BoNB can get fighter only feats, so I wanted to make sure the fighter as the very best access to the feats over anybody else.

I use the same feat progression since the beginning of the 3rd edition.
The good part is that this way fighters get a feat at each level.
