Howdy!

I recently purchased a copy of Unearthed Arcana and am wanting to begin using the Class Defense Bonus from pages 109-110.

My question is this:
Does a character lose the Class Defense Bonus when Flat-Footed or whenever the character would be denied a Dexterity Bonus to Armor Class?

I'm thinking that characters would lose defense bonuses anytime they would lose their Dexterity bonuses to AC or when Flat-Footed.

Is this conclusion correct? Does the text address this? If so, where (as I must have missed it)?

It doesn't state. It's the DM's call.

I know that both Star Wars and d20 Modern allow you to retain your Class Defense Bonus when flat-footed. You are still denied any Dex bonus you may have. For all intent and purpose, it's not a dodge bonus, so it is not denied when your Dex bonus is denied.

Thanks for the input.

Is there any time you can think of when this bonus should be denied? For instance, what if the character is restrained in some way? What if the character is asleep? Does this class defense bonuse still help? Do Star Wars or d20 Modern address situations like that?

When you're immobilized, paralyzed, helpless, dying, unconscious. Use reasonable judgment.
