I have a PC who's a 20th level Wizard, 20th level Archivist, but now that I have UA, I was hoping to make him a 40th level Gestalt Wizard/Archivist. What changes will this call for in my character design? It seems like it will just blend the 2 classes(which are basically the same anyway) into one, but there has to be something more then that.
Edit: I'm also thinking of doing this for my Druid/Totemist too.

Nope. That's it, except that your PC would be Level 20, not Level 40. Each pair of class levels counts as a single character level.

Keep in mind, however, that Gestalts are horribly broken unless used in a pure Gestalt campaign. That is, either EVERYONE is a Gestalt character or NOBODY is a Gestalt character. As you've probably noticed from my statements above, your PC just got a major power boost. It's not quite double, but it's still far and away above that of any other Level 20 PC you'll encounter.

Oh. That overpowered? Well, then, I guess I won't be doing it. I just realized myself he's getting 2x the spellcasting each level. I'm planning on making a dragon campaign, so maybe that's where I could derive my Gestalt fun from.

By the way, gestalting a wiz20//arc20 would not be possible since the latter is a prestige class with only 10 pre-epic levels. You would have to start with wizard//somethingelse until you got the requirements for archivist, then move on to wizard//archivist until archivist hits L10, then go on with something else up to level 20 and finally move over to wizard//archivist again.

Example (I haven't looked up whether the requirements can be met):
Level 1: wiz1//sor1
Level 2: wiz2//sor2
Level 3: wiz3//sor3
Level 4: wiz4//sor4
Level 5: wiz5//sor5
Level 6: wiz6//sor6
Level 7: wiz7//arc1/sor6
Level 8: wiz8//arc2/sor6
Level 9: wiz9//arc3/sor6
Level 10: wiz10//arc4/sor6
Level 11: wiz11//arc5/sor6
Level 12: wiz12//arc6/sor6
Level 13: wiz13//arc7/sor6
Level 14: wiz14//arc8/sor6
Level 15: wiz15//arc9/sor6
Level 16: wiz16//arc10/sor6
Level 17: wiz17//arc10/sor7
Level 18: wiz18//arc10/sor8
Level 19: wiz19//arc10/sor9
Level 20: wiz20//arc10/sor10
Level 21: wiz21//arc11/sor10
and so on...

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, I believe he means the archivist class from heroes of horror, which is a base class.

Take the experience for the 40th level, recalculate at LA+1 from level 1, and you have your new character. It won't lose that much...
