| AutumnRoo12-15-05, 04:33 PM | In a campaign that uses the generic classes variant in Unearthed Arcana, there are several features from the standard classes that are unavailable. In an effort to compensate for that, and imbue the setting with more divine champions, I came up with the following feats. First, a bit of background, though. There are only two gods in this setting (Kambria). A good god, Kara, and an evil god, Naresh. Each also has five divine paragons, demigods who personify various aspects of good and evil. The five divine paragons of Kara are: Barbatus Honorman, depicted in the form of a goodly knight carrying a lance and a sceptre. (honor) Kennera Lightbringer, a richly-robed woman with a halo of diamonds spinning around her head. (light and hope) Leraye Greentree, a tall woman with ivy for hair always in the company of deer. (natural flora and fauna) Maethlu Softheart, often depicted as a large brown bear in full plate armor. (mercy) Telephorus Lifegiver, a smiling youth with the horn of a unicorn. (life) The five divine paragons of Naresh are: Berithi Soulkeeper, a bald woman in a black gown with a silver circlet on her head. (undead) Nitra Foulsinger, depicted as a gaunt hag. (disease) Oriax Painsower, a man with serpents instead of legs, who wields a halberd. (pain) Saleon Blacktongue, a gallant and handsome soldier, wearing a ducal crown and riding a large crocodile. (discord and betrayal) Savnock Darklord, a man wearing rich and elegant clothes, with the head and wings of a blackbird. (darkness) The feats A character may only have one paragon feat. (Holy Pledge and Unholy Pledge are not paragon feats, but are required to take a paragon feat.) Holy Pledge You have willingly given yourself to the service of Kara and her divine paragons, denying yourself an ordinary life to better serve your highest ideals. Benefit: You gain a +2 sacred bonus on Diplomacy and Sense Motive checks. Special: If you take this feat, you can not take the Unholy Pledge feat. Unholy Pledge You have willingly given yourself to the service of Naresh and his divine paragons, denying yourself an ordinary life to better serve their highest ideals. Benefit: You gain a +2 profane bonus on Bluff and Intimidate checks. Special: If you take this feat, you can not take the Holy Pledge feat. Greentree of Leraye [Paragon] You have vowed to protect all natural creatures, upholding the virtues of the divine paragon Leraye. For this, she has given you powerful animal allies. Prerequisites: Holy Pledge Benefit: You gain the animal companion of a druid of your character level. Honorman of Barbatus [Paragon] You have sworn to live a life of honor, upholding the virtues of the divine paragon Barbatus. For this, he has given you the service of a powerful magical steed. Prerequisites: Holy Pledge Benefit: You gain the special mount of a paladin of your character level. If this feat is taken before 5th level, the mount is the same as a paladin of 5th level. Lifegiver of Telephorus [Paragon] You have sworn to heal those in need, upholding the virtues of the divine paragon Telephorus. For this, he has granted you abilities to cure their wounds and remedy their afflictions. Prerequisites: Holy Pledge Benefit: You gain the lay on hands and remove disease abilities of a paladin of your character level. Lightbringer of Kennera [Paragon] You have sworn to bring hope to troubled souls, upholding the virtues of the divine paragon Kennera. For this, she has given you the ability to bring light into the darkest regions. Prerequisites: Holy Pledge Benefit: You are cloaked in a radiant light that marks you as a servant of the purest ideals. Your radiance sheds bright light in a 10-foot radius (and shadowy illumination out to 20 feet). You can extinguish this radiance at will and reactivate it again as a free action. In addition, you and every ally within a 10-foot radius gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against fear effects, whether or not the light effect is currently active. Softheart of Maethlu [Paragon] You have vowed to show mercy at all times, upholding the virtues of the divine paragon Maethlu. For this, he has granted you the ability to make others show this same mercy. Prerequisites: Holy Pledge Benefit: Three times a day, you may cause the lethal damage inflicted on someone to instead be nonlethal damage. This ability lasts for one minute, takes a standard action to invoke, and has a range of 30 feet. For example, at the beginning of a battle, a Softheart sees the fighter of the party being quickly surrounded by orcs. The Softheart can invoke this ability on the fighter, and for the next minute all of the damage done to the fighter is nonlethal damage. This ability affects only hit points lost from lethal damage. It does not change ability damage or ability drain. Blacktongue of Saleon [Paragon] Your love of sowing discord has caused Saleon Blacktongue to take an interest in you, and he has bestowed a great gift of dissention upon you. Prerequisites: Unholy Pledge Benefit: You may use confusion as a spell-like ability once per day, with a save DC of 10 + 1/2 your level + your Charisma modifier. Treat this as a 4th level spell, with a caster level equal to your character level. Darklord of Savnock [Paragon] Your hatred of the light is matched only by the darkness of your heart. Savnock has noticed this, and has given you special abilities to force that darkness on others. Prerequisites: Unholy Pledge Benefit: A darklord can use darkness once per day as a spell-like ability (treated as a second-level spell with a caster level equal to your level). In addition, he gains darkvision out to 60 feet, and is unaffected by any darkness effect he creates. Foulsinger of Nitra [Paragon] You have sworn to spread filth and disease wherever you travel, upholding the virtues of the paragon Nitra. For this, she has given you the ability to disease others with a simple touch. Prerequisites: Unholy Pledge Benefit: You can use contagion as a spell-like ability three times a day, with an initial DC equal to 10 + 1/2 your level + your Charisma modifier. Treat this as a 4th level spell, with a caster level equal to your character level. Painsower of Oriax [Paragon] You live to revel in everyone else's pain, upholding the virtues of the divine paragon Oriax. For this reason, he has given you the ability to inflict even more pain on those around you. Prerequisites: Unholy Pledge Benefit: You gain the painsower ability, usable three times a day. This supernatural ability lasts for one round per level, takes a standard action to invoke, and has a range of 30 feet. The victim gets a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 your level + your Charisma modifier) to resist the effects. If the saving throw fails, the victim is overcome with such intense pain that he is nauseated (may only take a single move action each round). If the saving throw succeeds, he is only sickened with pain (takes a -2 penalty on all attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, and skill and ability checks). This effect can be countered by remove curse or break enchantment. Soulkeeper of Berithi [Paragon] Your devotion to the undead pleases Berithi Soulkeeper, and for this she grants you greater power over them. Prerequisites: Unholy Pledge Benefit: You can rebuke or command undead as a cleric of your character level. |
