| Millennium11-17-05, 03:14 PM | I'm looking at running a game with the Generic Classes variant from Unearthed Arcana, though with two twists. First, I'm adding in the PrCs for Paladin, Ranger, and Bard, as well as coming up with analogous PrCs for Barbarian, Druid, and Monk. Second, though, is that I want to put the Spellcaster on a strict Vancian diet: divine or arcane, all spellcasters use spellbooks (separate ones, for divine and arcane spellcasters). The modifications needed don't seem all that extensive. Here's what I'm thinking of. Spells per Day: Same as now, though spells are prepared rather than spontaneously cast. This is still fewer spells per day than a sorcerer, but more spells per day than any other class, including "classic" wizards and clerics. Spells Known: Dropped. As long as you can get them into your spellbooks, you can learn as many spells as you want. Any comments? There are plenty of other places to debate the merits of Vancian spellcasting, and I don't want this thread to become another one of those. I'm just looking to see if there are any holes in this idea, or other things I'll need to consider. |
