I’m going to be in a new campaign using a gestalt character and was wondering what some of you thought was the best fighter / magic using combo would be. My first thought is to do the classic Fighter/Wizard combo because of all the feats and spells you get in the end. Am I wrong? With so many prestige classes you can very in to I was just wondering what the best classes to start in is and with what goal some of you thought to have.

Cleric/Monk is a great combo. The Monk's speed complements the Cleric's touch abilities very nicely. Ad to that the ability of a front-line fighter to be able to heal him/herself and you ahve a very powerful combo

Personally, I think that when looking at a spell caster/fighter you need to try and get full BAB... with that in mind I think a Ranger/Wizard could be cool especially if you try ot hit daggerspell mage and invisible blade.

On the other hand ignoring that idea I think a VoP Druid/Monk would be amazing. Flurry of blows with wildshape could be very cool.

Also could be a grappling fiend Dire Ape monk.

For an all-out assault character, Fighter-Warmage would be a good combo. Could multiclass into Spellsword or Havoc Mage for some extra up-close spellcasting tricks. The problem here is that Warmagi are very limited in their spells. Yeah, they get a bunch to cast, but it's all attack magic. If you want more flexibility, go for Fighter-Wizard. If you want more spontaneity, stick with Fighter-Sorcerer. If you want to bulk up some, multiclass into Dragon Disciple or Greenstar Adept.

Fighter-Sorcerer into an Arcane Archer is the obvious trick for ranged types, Monk-Wizard or Monk-Sorcerer into Monk-Enlightened Fist would be fun(Polar Ray Fist anyone?), perhaps sneak in a level of Archmage for Master of Energy or Arcane Fire.

And then there's Paladin/Sorceror. Ewwww..... Good saves, cast a lot, hit a lot (True Strike-Power Attack-Smiting goodness!!). Take only spells with no somatic components and you won't even be limited with choice of armor. It's not even all that limiting; there's good spells available with no Somatic components, and you'll be casting them a LOT with Sorceror as your spell class.

If you're interested in getting a PrC, try Wizard/Rogue and go for Arcane Trickster. Or Fighter/Wizard and going for Arcane Archer. Ranger/Druid is a possibility for an uber-wilderness survivor. Finally, Monk/Wizard has a surprising amount of synergy.

Try something oddball; you never know when you might come across something really neat to play.

I've kinda been thinking a Hexblade/warlock. hexblade gives you the +1 BaB, both classes can cast in light armor, CHA based casting for both. get your long running buffs & escapes from warlock, short term buffs from hexblade, and have some fun.

Combining a couple seperate ideas from this thread, we tried a paladin-warmage in one gestalt campaign and ended up with a combat machine. Full BAB, all the artillery spells you'll every need and more, excellent saving throws, and the options of divine might and divine shield for when you need that extra umph. Not to mention armored spellcaster up to full plate if you take the Battle Caster feat from the complete arcane. If you don't mind a +1 LA the Half-Giant from the XPHB compliments this build well.
