I will be DMing a new Gestalt campaign pretty soon. However, some the of the players wanted to play races with level adjustments since we are starting at third level. One of the players is trying to argue that the level adjustment of his race (Satyr) will only apply to one of his gestalt classes, not both.

For LA, how does it usually work for Gestalt classes (other than the Monstrous Humanoid Levels)?

That is how I run LA in my campaigns. All level adjustments go to one side. So if you have a 3LA race it would look something like this:
3LA/warrior 3. It works the same for racial HD.

Hope this helps.

I guess if it works well that way, then I will enforce that ruling.

Thanks!

I just cut the LA in half, so if its +4 La, its +2 La for Gestalt. If its an odd number, say three, then its +1 La, and then you have one character level that is paired up with a dead level.

There is no specified method. Considering that each gestalt level is expressly better than a non-gestalt level, simply adding the LA on top with no compensation (that is, filling both level slots at each gestalt level) is inappropriate.

That being said, either method mentioned above (Racous121's single-side full or LeuktheSavior's double-side half methods) seems best, considering that they each treat level adjustments in the same manner as normal class levels are treated in gestalt.

I asked this same exact question several months ago. Most people said that they would put the LA towards one side and let him take classes for the other side. Which is what I would seem to agree with. I never actually played like this, I was just asking out of curiosity.

Example: Satyr (LA +2?) would look like this: First Class 1/Second Class 3 with the LA+2 applying to his first side.

There aren't any specific rules about it.

I treat LA as Class levels. So a LA+1 race at 1st level is LA 1 // Class 1. At 2nd level it would be LA 1 / Class 1 // Class 2. This can make a character more powerful than their ECL should be (comparing rules) but in most cases LA hurts players so much that it does not really matter. I also like it as it makes it much more forgiving to play a monster PC.

In one campaign I was a Mind Flayer // Psion / Monk, other characters were an Aasimar / Half-Celestial // Paladin and an (elf) Ranger // Monk. There was no noticeable superiority of one player over the other.

Thanks for the opinions, but in the end the player just decided to be a human.

Really.
