Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I don't see a thread on it. Has anyone come up with a good way to use +LA races with a gestalt game? A friend and I were trying to figure it out. With a +2 LA race, being a level lower in each class wasn't a big enough penalty, whereas 2 in each is too much.

I wanted a gestalt githzerai psychic warrior/monk. :(

I ended up playing a human rogue/ninja that died in the second encounter :weep:

i dont like races that have level adjustments. This is just my personal opinion.

That being said, I feel that level adjustments are not substitue levels for classes. I am about to run a Gestalt game, and I am going to say that if you take a LA class then you lose both sides of the Gestalt. If you dont want to be this harsh then maybe lose the LA/2 min of one. This would not effectLA +1 races but not completely nerf the higher races.

The tricky part would be races with Racal Hit Dice. I have seen a house rule that allowed you to Not take the racal hit dice.

Just some ideas.

For HD at least, they should be one 'side' of the gestalt.

house rules run the full range of possibilities when it comes to house rules, I personally preffer to treat them as class levels.

I take hitdice and LA out of one side of the gestalt, as the hitdice and LA rules already seem to imply that they are worth a level in a class.

That said I wouldn't recomend you allow races with an LA + hitdice greater than the level you are starting the game at as the gestalt rules are complicated enough, adding in monster class advancement just makes the problem worse.

Most of the games I run are Gestalt. As such, I have always done it like the post above.

So, if you wanted to play a Drow Ranger/Fighter, and the starting level is, say, 5, then you would have to decide if you have a Fighter/Ranger 3, Fighter/Drow 2, or a Fighter/Ranger 3, Ranger/Drow 2.

However, as stated above, I never allow an LA+Hitdie creature in a game that doesn't have that number of levels excisting. So, the above example couldn't be used if they party started at level 1. Level 2 would be OK, but you would be a single classed Drow, basically.

This probably isn't perfect, but I like my players to be a little on the powerful side.
