Gestalt and Level Increasing Item [Archive] - Wizards Community

How do magic items that give a character a free level (or enough experience points to put him or her midway into the next level) work in Gestalt?

Does it work the same way?

For example, if someone read a magical scroll that gave them +1 level in the arcane spell casting class of there choice, what about the other half of there gelstalt? Another Arcane Class?

Or should it be +1 effective caster level with Gestalt?

04-21-07, 04:56 AM That sounds like a magic item of your own creation; I've never heard of anything like it.

In which case, rule it the way you want to rule it. You're the DM. Too many DMs ask what they "should" do. It's your campaign. If it doesn't **** off all your players, ask not what you "should" do, but what you want to do.

04-21-07, 10:28 AM Most +1 CL presitge classes only affect 1 class at a time - I'd do something similar for an item. They pick an existing caster class progression and they gain a +1 to it.

If they have two (or more) progressions, they have to pick one to be affected. Though depending on the wording of the item, it might not be impossible to buy a second item to be used with the other class(es).

If it's a equipable item (as opposed to an expendable one), I'd be inclined to say it can only affect one progression per 24hrs to prevent them switching it every round.

04-21-07, 11:08 AM I say just increase one side and have the two sides start gaining a level at differant exp values it's not like it's incredibly complicated, especially if you are willing to deal with the complexities of Gestalt.
