Side A is your caster class and side B will be Fighter for the sake of discussion. At 6th level you qualify for a spell casting PrC. But you take it on side B ceasing your Fighter levels and adding to your caster level. So you would be 6th level in your caster class +1 from side B. Fast forward to 10th level, 10 levels in caster on side A and 5 levels in the PrC on side B. You are a 10th level character casting spells as a 15th level caster. Am I right? |
| Bemral10-03-04, 09:07 PM | Just so we're clear I'm going to plug some classes into your what if: Levels 1 - 5 Fighter/Wizard Gestalt Levels 6 - 10 Eldritch Knight/Wizard Gestalt. First note most combo PrCs aren't supposed to be used with Gestalt. Second you take the better of the two abilities, not doubling any that match. So it'd make a 10th level caster, because both the Wizard levels and four of the EK levels increase spell casting level, they are the same. If the PrC gave you levels in a different type of spell casting (like an Assassin for example) you would have levels in both of them separately, and would need to track them individually. Hope that makes it a little clearer. |

However a broken situation would be one wherein you took levels in wizard/cleric for three levels and then psion/sorc for three levels, then mystic theurge/sorc for one level, then mystic theurge/cerebremancer for ten levels Then for the last three levels do Cleric/Psion. You'd end up casting as a Cleric 17/Psion 16/Sorcerer 14/Wizard 13. Of course, any build which involves a psion is broken but that's irrelevant to the point. |
| Kiri Sittori10-05-04, 01:54 PM | There's a simple way to look at it: "+1 level of [spellcasting class]" is a class feature of any class that has spellcasting. If such a class is taken at the same time as a prestige class that grants +1 level of spellcasting in that particular class, then the features overlap (and do not stack.) |
| Kainy10-05-04, 03:16 PM | Combo. PrCs. Are. Not. Allowed. In. Gestalt. If you're using a variant where they are allowed, it's not Gestalt, and not relevant to this discussion. |

Well, besides the Combo PrC not allowed in gestalts, you also broke the rule about only one PrC at a time during gestalts, as well. Any more rules you want to try and break right now? |
| Sphyre10-08-04, 08:49 AM | he also broke the know what you're talking abour rule... he said psions are broken... |
| White_Fox10-09-04, 05:41 AM | I also find it interesting that you would really even refer to a gestalt mix as 'broken'. The entire point of using that particular rule varient is to create PC's that are uber-powerful, if you don't want your players to have acess to unreasonable abilities then don't gestalt. |
