But I just had an idea for a character using the Gestalt rules, and I know it can't possibly be mechanically allowed. Start with, I dunno, Fighter/Wizard. It doesn't really matter much, so long as one of them is a spellcasting class. Level however is necessary to qualify for the Prestige class that adds to casting of your choice, in this example Loremaster. Then you Gestalt that Prestige Class with Wizard, and advance in them. You go Fighter/Wizard 7 (if you're Human, you'll meet the Feat prerequisites at this point, and it's not hard to pick up the 7 Divination spells). Then, you go Loremaster/Wizard 10, then, let's say, Archmage/Wizard 3. So, at 20th level, you cast as a 33rd-level Wizard, with Epic spells and suchlike. Or, hell, Ftr/Wiz 5, RedWiz/Wiz 10, Archmage/Wiz 5, and get spells per day and CL and such as a level 35 Wizard. I'm wrong, aren't I? This doesn't work for some reason, right? |

| Tzepish04-08-04, 02:12 AM | This doesn't work because if two classes gain the same abilities, you don't gain them twice, rather, you gain them at the faster rate. |
| strenoth04-08-04, 03:12 AM | exactly. same thing wiht sneak attack, and familiar advancement (imagine a sorc/wiz at level 10 with a familiar who had 20 levels of powers.. beyond that the familiar woudl start gaining the epic familair ability, to cast spells it's master knows 1/day!) |

You can't do that. Once you choose what two classes you Gestalt in, you can not "switch" over your choices. |
