ZiggZagg 08-10-07, 12:06 PM	Hey everyone. I am getting ready to create a Gestalt 40th level Red Dragon. One half of the progression will be taken up by his savage progression (don't argue that this can't be done, it is being done). I am trying to figure out what would go well on the other side. I was thinking about 29 levels of Sorcerer, becuase with the Dragon Racial spellcasting, that would equal the Effective Sorcerer Level to the ECL. Then the last 11 levels can be a draconic prestige class, most likely either Hidecarved or Energy Master. So, any advice on what to put on the second side, other than what I have, is greatly appreciated. Also, I don't like the idea of 29 straight Sorcerer levels. Any good prestige classes that I should be looking at to help with this? Thanks!
Kesthol 08-10-07, 02:09 PM	Well, for one thing, I'd be tempted to say that a dragon HD should take up one side of a gestalt, and its LA should take up some of the other half, for power balance reasons, or it would have to have an adjusted CR and/or ECL (in your case, above 40, but probably not much). Unless you are dealing with HD and the ECL adjustment for a 40th level dragon separately (ie, 32 HD and +8 LA). But that's just IMHO. But, anyway, how about a Ravager (Rager? R-something destructive) of Tiamat? Good prestige class for evil dragons, gives powerful breath weapon boosts. Most dragon prestige classes have 12 levels; I'd recommend trying to get them all in. Other than 29 straight sorcerer levels, how about a few levels of cleric? The spellcasting ability would be :eek:. Besides, the dragon should have innate sorcerer levels at that HD anyway, which stack with the sorcere class. The effective sorcerer level could be mid-30s with 20 levels of sorcerer; that'd leave 8 or 9 levels for cleric.

Morwen 08-10-07, 09:58 PM	Cleric levels aren't really that useful, since Red Dragons can already cast cleric spells as arcane spells :) I'd go for Barbarian-Frenzied Berserker. At least assuming it's a "monster" rather than a PC.
Korone 08-11-07, 03:58 PM	For a melee tank, Barbarian/Bloodscale rager(?)/Frenzied Berserker is the way to go. By that level, you won't fail that will save to keep you from kiling everything near, especially with the good will save of the dragon.
strenoth 08-12-07, 07:13 PM	and migth I reccomend IUS, and SUS, maybe throw in snap kick? throw in rapid Strike/IRS for claws and wings, an Multi attack & improved Multiattack, then do a full-attack that is a set of 5 unararmed strikes followed by a full set of natural attacks. throw ina Quickend BreathWeapon for fun. :-D

TheDarkLord 08-13-07, 07:33 PM	I myself would use a smaller sized dragon, perhaps one that will only net you between 18-20 ECL, ditch the spellcasting if you can, you only want the melee part of the dragon (I think a variant or PRC or something allows you to do this, can't remember where it's from though). On the opposite side, go 20 Sorc or wizard, and then mix in ABJ Champ, Archmage, IotSFV, and Icantrix or something. I always have a full spellcasting progression with gestalt, that way I can rotate from Door Basher, to Arcane nightmare from round to round :D.
ZiggZagg 08-14-07, 04:52 AM	I just started to look at The Dread Witch and Nightmare Spinner. Specializing in fear based magic sounds like fun. To round out my offense, I am going to take Spellwarp Sniper, create an Epic Progression to take it to 9th level so that I can Spellwarp Breathweapon Admixture, that way if anything actually manages to get close to me, I can blow them to pieces with little effort :D
