| darczero09-29-04, 04:50 AM | Just out of curiosity, in a game full of Gestalt characters, should a Wizard/Sorcerer's Familiar be allowed to add class levels as well, making them Gestalt too? |
| Riznar09-29-04, 01:21 PM | :mymy: Familiars don't gain HD, so I don't know what you'd gestalt their class levels with... What kinds of familiars would they get if they also had wiz/sor levels? |
| caeruleus09-29-04, 04:56 PM | A familiar with a familiar... would it have to be linear, or could it go in loops? A's familiar is B. B's familiar is C. C's familiar is A. (I hope no one thinks I'm being serious here.) |

(I hope no one thinks I'm being serious here.) I don't see how it'd be possible, unless all of them were baby dragon sorcerers with Dragon Familiar, and had each other as familiars. :) |

Familiars don't gain class levels in a standard game, so I wouldn't allow it in a gestalt game. Remember to stack the Wizard and Sorceror levels to determine the abilities of the familiar according to the chart in the PHB. |

Unless they overlap: a (Wiz/Sor)2 has a familiar of second level, not of fourth. THis build: L1 Ftr/Wiz L2 Sor/Wiz L3 Ftr/Sor Has a familiar of third level. |
| Ilium10-01-04, 11:24 AM | I see darczero's point. In a gestalt game the familiar will be even wimpier than usual when compared to the PCs. Although it will gain the benefit of the master's higher hit points at least. Giving it class levels is overkill, I think. I don't see a quick solution, though. |
| DrMorganes10-02-04, 11:51 PM | Unless they overlap: a (Wiz/Sor)2 has a familiar of second level, not of fourth. Not quite, unless things where changed with 3.5. I never bothered to purchase the 3.5 PH; with the availability of the SRD I didn't see the point. The 3.0 PH specifically states that a multiclass Wizard/Sorceror may consider his Wizard levels as Sorceror levels (or vice versa) for purposes of determining his familiar's abilities. In general, class abilities for multiclass characters stack. The Uncanny Dodge ability for Rogues and Barbarians stack, etc. |
| darczero10-03-04, 08:24 AM | Nope. Sorry I asked. Let's just leave familiars as extremely weak ways for wizards and sorcerers to lose experience. And no, it says that identical class features (I believe that it specifically cites the Familiar) do not stack. |
