I find multiclassing in gestalt games to be a huge headache. I was considering just saying there is no more multiclass penalties, but I'm not sure what to do to compensate Human and half-elves for one of their best abilities. Any suggestions?

The Favored Class: Any ability of humans and half-elves is actually one of their worst, even if you're doing a no-PrC core game. You don't need to compensate them for this "loss".

Multiclassing penalties are more of a protection against dipping into front-loaded classes than anything else. The problem is that if you do things properly, you don't incur any such penalties in the first place.

I hate to seem like a total Newb, but what is Gestalt? I've wondered this since I joined, and have seen the word thrown around, but no explenation.

Basically taking two classes at once. It is covered in "Unearthed Arcana". You take both class features, and the better stats. For example, if you did a Sorcerer/Fighter you would get a d10 hit-die, spell casting, familiar, bonus feats from fighter, and be proficient with all armor and all martial and simple weapons.

For a human, yes I will concede that it is the worst part of their abilities. but for a half-elf, it is one of the best. And overall, it is a very useful ability when dipping levels into different classes"

For those who want a realistic near-Gestalt character should check my "Caster Variant" Thread

By realistic do you mean a magic user that only uses slight of hand?
