I was thinking of giving each race a favored class in addition to their preferred class. Humans and half-elves would have a favored class of 'Any'. The favored class would be the class you may combine with another class for gestalt levels. You can't take any gestalt levels until 6th level sort of like a prestige class. You can't gestalt with a prestige class (eliminates a number of headaches). The maximum levels that you can gestalt is 10. Taking a gestalt level combined with a class other than your preferred class counts as 2 gestalt levels. This simply means you could take only 5 gestalt levels if all 5 were with a class other than your preferred class. So any comments? |

If you can take both rogue and fighter together and choose to only advance as a fighter thats your choice (a dumb choice IMO). I allow 20 different races and try to have most of them with different combinations so most like there will be one that suits each player, but if not then they just try to get the closest fit possible. I've since changed my idea a bit. Instead of a maximum of 10 gestalt levels it will be 6 gestalt levels. I'm adding paragon class levels which maybe gestalted with favored class with no penalty. I'm also eliminating the LA for the few races I permit that have LA. I'm also stripping the extra benefits and making additional levels to the paragon classes which come before the standard paragon levels. This will allow someone to play a dark elf wizard for instance at 1st level, but things like spell resistance and spell-like abilities will only be gained by taking the 1st 2 levels of the dark elf paragon class which is now expanded to 5 levels (1st two levels being the extra bonues a dark elf would normally get and be penalized 2 levels, next three levels are the normal three dark elf paragon class levels). Additional benefits will be they gain hit dice, saving throws, and skill points at each of the levels. |
