I heard that it was decided what the LA for a gestalt character is in a normal game. If anyone knows what that is and why or can show me where to look I would be most thankful.

I think it suggests upping the challenge rating of the enemies by 2, 1 if the enemie has alot of save or die effects (cause gestalts have etter saves). it would be under the gestalt option in UA..

Trying to balance a gestalt character with a regular one is difficult, and you're bound to run into difficulties. A good rule of thumb is have gestalt characters take 1/2 more xp to level up, or have them only recieve 2/3 xp from encounters.

If you really want to balance your game out, have everyone gestalt. Otherwise, there are going to be problems.

Well this game is imbalanced to begin with, which is part of the fun :P

I've heard on several occasions that +2 LA has been very rewarding for those who have run gestalt characters in a non-gestalt game. But with any fundamental change, it does weaken some things (Such as mystic Theurge type prestige classes)

Thou shalt not combine gestalt and non gestalt.

Thou shalt not tell another how to play D&D.

That is positivly the most funny thing I've ever seen in these forums.

Do you mean that it's contradictory to what happens on these forums often? Yeah, but it's those who are close minded who think their way of playing is "the best" the closest to the "best" way of playing D&D is where everyone's having fun.

Most of the time I see, original posters, either sharing ideas or asking opinions to better help them form their own, rather than being TOLD what to do.

I see nothing funny about it.

Well I do agree that you should not play an unmodified gestalt in a non gestalt game. It would odviously be more powerfull than everybody else. But if add a LA to it it might balance out the extra abilities that gestalt gives just like LA balacnes the bonuses given to you by templates. The question is how high of an LA? The suggestion of 2 might be a good one what is the reason behind it? If you dont know it is cool I just want to know.

i misinterpreted what you meant. the LA+2 that I was talking about was for monsters that don't have gestalt levels taking on the pcs...

you can't really add a LA to gestalt. think about it. the LA would have to scale up with the players level.

and the player would always have twice as many abilities as the non gestalts.
I don't think this is a good idea. I'd make every one gestalt (even if you have 3-4 players).

good luck though.

I mean I really think your phrasing and contradicting was very funny indeed. You have the reason and I do not oppose nor mock your actions, please, next time understand somethings meaning before commenting and degenerating.

I was clarifying if anything. I guess that makes two of us who didn't understand where the other was coming from.

I certainly see where you're coming from now, when it is in a "command" form :P

Gestalt balanced with non-gestalt:
Multiclassing.

That's it folks, that's how you balance someone taking two classes with someone taking one. In some cases, they make prestige classes to ease this in impractical situations (see mystic theurge).
