Alright I am playing in a campaign were the Dm is a little loose on rules. Actually 2 different Dms' but they are both running a gestalt campaign. One is at level 7 and the other at 12. In both cases i have persmission to use any reasonable d20 book out there such as those published by WOTC, AEG or Malhavoc including unconverted 3.0 stuff (which i would need to adjust). I was wondering what is the best senergy for all classes/prestige classess

Also which classes synergizes the most in everyones opinion.

Bard/?
Barbarian/?
Cleric/?
Druid/?
Fighter/?
Monk/?
Palidin/?
Ranger/?
Rogue/?
Sorcerer/?
Wizard/?
Psion/?
Soulknife/?
Pychic Warrior/?

Some of the complete series, campaign setting, UA variants classes that also comes to mind

Warmage/? (Complete arcane) (My favorite in my opinion)
Ninja/? (rokugan /Oriental adventure campaign setting - by AEG)
Artificier/? (Eberron)
Mystic/? (Dragonlance)

Here is one for the 12th level I came up with

Fighter 6/ Arcane Archer 6
Warmage 12

This option allows you to have plenty of area effect spells to imbue with as well as being abled to cast armored. Only Dex truely helps both the classes with Ac, to hit both with bow and with touch attacks.

I always thought that a Warlock/Bard might be fun. You get Warlock casting, healing and both are secondary [The Bard being the JoaT and the Warlock being a secondary caster. Also both can use light armor and wield weapons fairly well.

IMO that would be the most fun and awsome gestalt.

I personally think that either a Wizard/Rogue or Wizard/Ninja (using Complete Adventurer) would be lots of fun. I'd use one "column" (I don't know what terms the people on these boards use; this is my term) for Wizards and Wizard-based prestige classes, and the other for Ninja or Rogue, with four levels of Fighter if the campaign will go epic.

Cleric/Paladin maxed out for undead turning strikes me as a pretty cool combo, if a bit redundant.

A Sorcerer/Favored Soul (Complete Divine) would work well for a character at the centre of a very important prophesy or some such.

For a variation on the Fighter/Warmage theme, check out the Bladesinger PrC.

If you wanna get ridiculous (which I, for one, don't have a problem with), try the following or suggest it to a fellow player (not sure whether this has been mentioned before on these boards): One "column" pure Barbarian. The other column is five levels of a class of your choice (I suggest Fighter, Druid, Rogue or Cleric, in order of my preference), then five levels of Survivor (from Savage Species), then the rest as a Frenzied Berzerker (from Complete Warrior).

*Sigh* I need to get into a campaign soon.

for the level 12 campaign... i suggest warlock/rogue... or sorceror/rogue... warlock rogue would just be too sweet though... think of all those beautiful d6's when you're doing an invisible "hideous blow" sneak attack... beautiful...

Gestalt min/maxing is all about removing a class's balancing factors. For a simple example, if a class normally grants a d4 HD and bad BAB, then gestalting it with something with a d12 HD and fighter BAB maximizes your RoI. The best ways to beef yourself up is to choose one thing you really like that is normally hamstringed in some way and choose the gestalt side to pump it.

1) Prestige classes that only offer partial spellcasting advancement can be torn wide open with gestalt. Bladesingers suddenly become attractive, as do things such as Acolyte of the Skin, Master Transmogrifist, Mindbender, Spellsword, etc. Strategically placing 4 levels of Sorcerer into one side of a Master Transmogrifist gestalt can net you shapechange and Infinite Variety at the same time, while simultaneously giving you 16 levels of something else, like Artificer or Fighter or Warlock.

2) Classes such as Survivor and War Hulk that add no BAB can be abused in a similar way. Just add Barbarian levels and laugh as everything around you dies.

3) Chameleon makes a great addition to any gestalt.

4) For maximal synergy, pick classes that depend on the same abilities. For example:
Wisdom: Cleric 20///Monk 20
Wis + Cha: Cleric 20///Favored Soul 20
Charisma: Bard 20///Warlock 20, Sorcerer 20///Warlock 20
Int+ Dex: Wizard 10/Daggerspell Mage 10///Rogue 17/Swashbuckler 3

Warlock///Battle Sorcerer is especially nice, since both are generally so limited in their spell/ability choices. The warlock's imbue item ability makes up for the sorcerer's lack of spell's known, as well as providing even more gishy bits. With one feat he'd be casting in medium armor and that's just sexy. Pick up a nice sorcerer prestige class on the right side and you're home free. Wow, I suddenly want to play this one. :P

I guess that's all I have to say. :D

i could imagine that a
spellthief (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20050107a&page=1) (complete adventurer excerpt) 20/ anything (with evasion somehow)
could be quite insane.
spellthief is one of this rare classes, i wouldnt like to multiclass, but gettin it as a "freeby" is quite sick. it renders you somewhat immune to magic, just missin evasion for area ref spells. especially the lvl 20 ability, to return spells as an imediate action is kicky.

i just thought of an arcane archer with quicken spell like ability (imbue arrow) for some extra fun,
but the invisible blade would be quite insane for spell stealin (at least one sneak attack per round).

after some adventuring you should have the reputation, that all unfriendly spellcasters invite you for a tea, instead of fightin ya off...

Why not a Ring of Evasion? 3.5 DMG page 232.

I haven't run anything, but crunching numbers I've come up with some scary combos, and my players will love me for giving them good allies, or hate me for giving them terrible foes.

- Wiz 11/Rog 14/Invisible Blade 5/Daggerspell Mage 10, then just going Rogue/Arcane Trickster in epic.
- For those who like the exalted route Mnk 9/Clr 17/Apostle of Peace 10/Celestial Mystic 4, finishing up the Celestial Mystic and then just Cleric/Monk in epic. Works incredibly well with Epic VoP (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=274713).
- My crazy multiclassing plan, the elven archer: Ftr 4/Rng 14/W7/Order of the Bow Initiate 5/Arcane Archer 6/Darkwood Stalker 4, finishing up the PrCs and Ranger in epic, as well as advancing fighter levels for more fighter feats.

And, for simplicity's sake, here's some of the less crazy ones:
- Monk/Paladin: Sure, you need amazing stats. But you'll never fail a save. Ever.
- Rgr 10/Horizon Walker 10//Bard 20: The world's greatest wanderer. And one of the easy ones to show the gestalt split. :D
- Hexblade/Rogue: I love the flavor of this one. Hexblades with sneak attack just looks fun.
- Ftr 15/Reaping Mauler 5//Monk 20: A grappler if I've ever seen one.

Anyone who's interested in the progressions, I've got Excel spreadsheets, just let me know.

Here's my two cents. They're not the most optimized but I think they'd be fun to play.

Bard/Barbarian - Because it meshes fairly well and it plays pretty cool.

Cleric/? - Hard to go wrong here. Barbarian/fighter/paladin will make you a tough hombre.

Druid/Rogue - Nice in combat/out of combat diversity. Throwing in a level or two of monk and make a bee-line to warshaper would be pretty cool.

Fighter/? - Mixes well with most that have a good will save.

Monk/Rogue - Nice mix of abilities. Sneak attack is nice with flurry. HP's aren't so hot and you'll need very good abilities scores.

Palidin/Favored Soul - Best saves in the game (with Force of Personality the WILL save is tops). Can freely transition out of Paladin to taste.
(This is my personal favorite. You're the fighter that never fails a save. You don't need really high abilities except for CHA. I keep taking levels in Favored Soul and maybe switch from paladin to fighter for some feats if you want to get into a prestige class early.)

Ranger/Wizard - Maybe take a level of rogue to get trapfinding. They mesh reasonably well and you won't miss with rays too often. Makes for a neat "treasure hunter" type.

Rogue/Druid - Focusing on rogue you could abandon spellcasting and transition druid to warshaper and Master of Many Forms.

Sorcerer/Paladin - Heading to Spellsword would be neat with this.

I just wrote up a Gestalt character concept over in the Character Development boards, but I will talk about it here.

Spellthief/Warlock

Sure, you don't get a whole lot of variety with the Warlock, but the ability to steal spells from your opponents compensates for that quite nicely. Not to mention the fact that stealing spells from someone by using an Eldritch Blast just sounds like a cool idea.

Some of my favorite gestalts use classes from the "Complete" series.

Bard/Warlock: This has been mentioned before, and its still a good one, because these classes both rely on the same scores to be effective and both compliment each other very well. Plus, it's an interesting bit of flavor: You use your charm to hide your hidden evil powers.

Hexblade/Warlock: Heh, an even more flavorful combination. The hexblade grants many abilites that cover the Warlock's weaknesses, and the ability to curse peoplr from a distance WILL come in handy. About the only thing this class combo won't do well is have good Fort and Ref saves, but Mettle helps mitigate that somewhat. Besides, the classes just complement each other flavor-wise.

Scout/Ranger: Want to be the ultimate outdoorsman? Want to have even more crunchy sillpoints

Ranger/Fighter: Be afriad. Be very afriad. All of those feats will make you a terror to behold, especially against your favored enemies...and if you choose to focus on one style over the other (instead of splitting your feats between them) you can pwn just about anything in your speciality.

Barbarian/Scout: do you want to move as fast as a monk? And do even more damage while raging while doing it? This combo is for you. Make sure you aim for Spring Attack with this build, because you'll need it.

Rogue/Scout: I get giddy thinking about the nasty sniper I can make with this build. If you set things up right, you can roll MASSIVE amounts of d6s, but even if you don't, you can move just as well in a city as you can in the wilderness.

Ninja/Monk: With the ability to walk around unarmored and still kick massive booty, this class is for those who've ever wanted to do a Munchikn Moonwalk while invisible. When you combine the ability to go invisible and do massive damage with a Sudden Strike with a full attack flurry of blows, you will be a force to be feared. However, your Base Attak Bonus won't improve, so Weapon Finesse or a high strength is a must.

20 Spellthief 20 Ur-priest

I don't want to come up with the actual saves this guy would have ... Assuming an 18 starting charisma, with a +6 item, all stat bumps into charisma, +5 inherent bonus, +6 resistance --- That's at least a +48 on all saves vs. spells.

If he makes a save, he suffers no effects at all. If he then makes a successful level check, he can absorb the spell for himself or immediately turn it back on his opponent. He sneak attacks like a motherlovin' something, is immune to mind affecting spells and effects, casts 5th level cleric spells, has modest spell resistance ... And a constant nondetection!

Basically, this guy's only going to worry about spells that don't allow a save, but wait! He's got SR! :nonono: He'll also be quite good in a stand up fight thanks to the clerical buffs, good HD & BAB from most of his levels, etc.

Warmage/Barbarian. favored Fort and Will, d12 HD, Full Blaster Caster run, can cast in armor and Martial Proficiencies. Whirling blade with a Greataxe, good times.

Psion/Soulknife could be quite nifty, kinda like a Wizard/FtrRog.

Soulknife/Rogue. Sneak Attack with a Psychic striking Bastard Sword. Bonus damage out the yin-yang.

Cleric/Fighter. Self-buffing and repairing Fighter.

Psychic Warrior/Rogue. Sneak attacking psuedo-Jedi.

Bard/Barbarian. Flavorful, plus you get to call your self a Bardbarian.

Hexblade/anything gives you a nice flavor change for the other class.

Of these, I'd modt likely do either the Psion/Soulknife or the Cleric/Fighter.

Prophet, sorry to spoil your fun, but only 1 PrC at any one level.
But, if your DM is stupid or ignorant or newbie, try pulling off this one.
Start as Sorcerer/favored soul. Multiclass into mystic theurge/wilder. Next, mystic theurge/cerebromancer. If you have levels, qualify for foch-thingy lyrist. I don't know about Ur-priest, but it seems to be some sort of munchkin class, too.

For focus on DEX+INT:Wizard X/ Rogue/InvisibleBlade
For CHA Focus: Favored Soul/Sorcerer

Have you asked your DM what the rules for races with ECL is? Becuase if you can take classes in parallel with these races you should consider being a pixie or half-dragon (low stats are often the downfall of Gestalt Characters), but if they don't then you want to be a standard race.
MJ the Prophet

05-14-05, 02:27 PM
Gilean: Actually, I managed to follow that rule. All of my progressions are worked out with only 1 PrC at each level. I've got them as Excel spreadsheets if you're interested. I just listed what the eventual levels of classes at 20th level would be. Very few are straight progressions, and they'd be hard to write in the class/class//class/class format.

As a 12th level Gestalt character I'd go Druid/Wizard 5 then Master of Many forms/Mystic Theurage 7

What this does is make you a 12th level Caster in both Druid and Wizard Plus give you the ability to Shapchange yourself in to any 12 HD or Less Humanoid, Monstrous Humanoid, Giant, Vermin, Aberation, Animal... I think thats it there may be more. But you also gain all Extrodinary abilities of each including Regen, Fast Healing, DR against specific weapon types. My favorite form would include the Cave Troll form wih Fast Healing and pounce rake and improved grapple.

But then again having Access to 6th level spells in both Druid and wizard is vicious cause of all the buffing you can do.

Also you can focus on just INT WIS and CON for Spell Casting and HP as CHA has little use for you... You're a wrecking ball not a diplomat. and STR and DEX will be dependant on your form.

So far I've had reasonable success with a Fighter/Bard maxed out to trip and disarm with a whip. TWF allows the whip to do it's fancy combat action (disarm, trip or just lash at some poorly armored sucker within 15 feet) and keep a shortsword in the off hand for attacks of opportunity and the ability to threaten squares.

Sudden still is a very important feat to this character...when fighting with two weapons, it helps a great deal to be able to still cast the occasional spell. Additionally, starting with improved initiative allows a quick boost to the entire party with inspire courage.

Best moment yet: Attacking a grell from higher ground by comboing lots of jump ranks with expeditious retreat.

if you just want to have some many feats you don't know what to put them in go fightrt/psoinc warior you get 7 for leves by 20 you get 11 from fighter and 8 i think for psoinc warior for a total of arouned almost thirty feats with psionc powers. with feats like up the walls and speed of thought, spring attack and the power lion charge you can youse ever surface in a dungen as something to spring attack from and get your fuul attack

Okay, I really like CV,
Start out your first 5 levels as rogue/druid. Add 5 levels of daggerspell shaper to your char while keeping up with druid. At level 11 go with 10 more levels of druid and the Master of Many Forms.
(I may be wrong on Daggerspell Shaper's requirements, but if I am, add more levels of druid or rogue as appropriate, so long as you have at least 2 levels in Daggerspell Shaper)

At level 20, you'll look like this (if I'm Correct)
Rog5/Dru20/DShaper5/MMF10.

One stabitty druid.

Or you could do one of the rogue variants
Rogue/Scout or Rogue/Bard or Bard/Scout

that's all I got
