Hi all. I was just wondering what the CR would be for gestalt mosnters with hit dice? I already figured out how to do it and I was wondering how I would calculate CR?

I was thinking just using the class oppisite their racial hit dice for the CR.

What do you guys think?

You mean a monster with gestalt character classes? If that is what you mean then just add one to the CR. Example: Orc/fighter3/rouge3=CR4

I mean gestalted monsters that have racial hit dice. Like a gnoll fighter 3/ranger 5 What would be the cr for this thing? I was going with cr 5.

My question is this what about something with alot of racial hit dice? what would be the CR on that?

If you are going to gestalt then both of the classes should have the same level. That is the only way to truly gestalt.

CR should be The CR of the monster in the monster manual +the class levels+1
example: gnoll(which is a cr1)/fighter 5/ranger5 would be a CR 7. Now all gestalt combinations are not equal but that is good for an generic formula.

He means gestalting the racial hitdice of the monster with another class, then doing multiple classes.

Gnoll HD 1 // Ranger 1
Gnoll HD 2 // Ranger 2
Gnoll HD 2/Fighter 1 // Ranger 3

etc.

ok thanks for the clarification, but since not all monster HD count the same toward CR it would be different for each monster. I would not even bother with racial HD because they are not as effective classes, but if that is what he wants to do then they should increase the racial HD of the monster and find it's new CR(there is a guide in the back of MM1 which tells you how to find new CR's), and then gestalt the classes

I think that some of Kain Darkwind's results from asking this earlier is that if you apply 1/3 of total HD gestalt levels, it's CR +1, 2/3 is CR +2, and full is CR +3. Something like that. It might vary, ofcourse - this is just a guideline.

One question - are the PCs gestalt as well?

Yes. The PCs are gestalt. It said in the book to Gestalt important NPCs or anyone with more then one lvl of a pc class.

Then, the CR should stay as written. If both sides are gestalt the general balance is, IMO, mantained. And the non-gestalt enemies should have negative CR adjustment.
