Bushmen 12-11-06, 07:24 PM	I know Gestalt is broken but it is also fun so here is a question I know a 3 wizard/ 3 sorcerer only casts as a 3 level character now lets say you have 10 character levels and you take for your 10 level to prestige classes and they both give +1 to exishting class do you add them both as long as your caster level does not pass your character level?
strenoth 12-11-06, 08:47 PM	um, you don't seem to quite have all the rules for gestalt right. Ok, let's go with the sorc/wizard example. A sorcerer3//wizard3 has the Known spells & spell slots of a third level sorcerer. You can only use sorcerer spell slots with spells known as a sorcerer. Upi also have a spell book and 3rd level wizard spell slots. Those spell slots can only be used for preparing & casting your wizard spells you have in your spellbook. at sorcer10 // wizard10, you decide for your next level to take a prestige class, You can only take ONE prestige class at a time, so you have to pick which class to continue with. I'm going to pick the Incantrix Prestige class for this example. You reach 11th level, and the character becomes a Sorcerer10/incantrix1 // wizard 11 (wizards do at least get bonus feats, so you are better off prestiging the sorcerer instead) Incantrix adds +1 to an existing arcane spellcasting class, so you should add it to sorcerer, as you will get no benifit from adding it to wizard. If you tried to give that bonus to wizard, you woudl effectively loose it, because the UA book specifically stats that you compare to identical class features and use the better progression, with spellcasting being a perfect example. Wizard and incantrix would both add +1 spellcasting to the wizard spell progression, so you would not benifit if you did that. You select the sorcerer instead, and you cast spells as sorc11 and a wiz 11, + you have the abilities of a level 1 incantrix.
Mindforge 12-12-06, 12:52 AM	Bushmen --->Keep in mind Bushmen, you can only have one prestige class on a level, the other class must be a base/core/expanded class. Strenoth --> If you took the incantrix, you would gain the ability to cast the spells of an 11th wizard, I don't see where you are going on the, "it would be useless." Both arcane classes can benefit from the progression (only one per incantrix level, of course). Just wondering why you would be "effectively losing it."
strenoth 12-12-06, 06:41 PM	because you already got 11th level wizard casting from taking the 11th level of wizard, using the build I put up. Getting 11th level of wizard twice still only gets you 11th level wizard, and leaves you with sorcerer 10
shade78 12-17-06, 08:43 PM	I agree with Strenoth on this. A 10th lvl gestalt sor/wiz reaches 11th lvl and takes a lvl in wiz and incantrix. He gains spells normally for taking a new lvl in wiz and then can add the +1 spellcasting to sor. Otherwise I think that would mean he would be considered 12th lvl wiz if he added it to that. Right? If you were playing a non-gestalt character with equal levels in sor and wiz then you would have to choose which to put the incantrix spellcasting to. This way (playing gestalt) you get the best of both worlds which is the whole wonderful point of playing gestalt!
Merryadocc 12-17-06, 09:35 PM	How about this to realy screw your concept around. Go Gestalt Wiz5/Sor5 then take the next 10 levels as Ultimate Magus10/Sor to 15. Then take 5 Archmage levels and randomize the other 5 levels with sorcerer and wizard! That should cause some gestalt headaches! ;)
strenoth 12-17-06, 10:27 PM	Can't take ultimate magus, it's a dual-progression PrC, which is expressly forbidden by the gestalt rules.
