We are running a gestalt campaign and need a cleric. I am thinking swordsage/favaoured soul devoted to Dol Arrah.

Now - everyone agrees that the Desert Wind school is gimped. How about if we rule that the fire damage from this characters maneuvers is half fire, half divine?

Too much? Not enough?

Cloister Cleric/Swordsage would be nice.

Cloister CLeric/Psychic Warrior would be better :D.

That would be way too much.

Desert Wind isn't a bad discipline, it's just a situational discipline and requires some maintainence if you want to use it for raw damage, since you need to trade up those damaging maneuvers whenever you can. If you're more interested in the boosts and non-damage counters which it provides (there are quite a few) then it's very good for those as-is.

You're only likely to run into trouble if you're trying a "Desert Wind only" approach, and even then it's not that big an issue when you're gestalted; your Favored Soul half will easily plug the gap there.

Sorry for being stupid, but what is a gestalt?

Gestalt is a variant in Unearthed Arcana which essentially allows you to hybridize two classes into one.

Crusader/Favored Soul. I have one in my campaign. He hits hard, heals well, and can endure great punishment.

Both Crusader and Swordsage have decent synergy with favored soul, but I think the Crusader meshes just a little bit better in the long run.

Devoted spirit and stone dragon really play well into the favored soul.

Note, this is a CAMPAIGN variation, it applies to all PCs (and major NPCs), or to none.
