| Thrask_Whitefire06-13-07, 11:18 PM | Ok so i have a few questions about Gestalt, i'm new to the boards so i really don't know anything about it. 1.) What is Gestalt 2.) How does it Work 3.) Can you give me some good examples of gestalt |
| Kurikin06-14-07, 12:43 AM | 1. Its used for small groups to fill up needed roles 2. Characters pick 2 class progressions and gain all the abilities of both. For saves, HD and skill points/level you use the highest. Prestige classes such as Mystic Thuerge that give you progression in 2 different things, also the ascetic feats, aren't allowed 3. The Gestalt's most broken combos thread is what your looking for (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=767990) |
| TheDarkLord06-14-07, 01:03 AM | 1. Its used for small groups to fill up needed roles Bah, I use it for a full sized group of 5 and it works wonderfully. BBEG's also became more BBEGish. 2. Characters pick 2 class progressions and gain all the abilities of both. For saves, HD and skill points/level you use the highest. Prestige classes such as Mystic Thuerge that give you progression in 2 different things, also the ascetic feats, aren't allowed They are not disallowed you mean, they are up to the discretion of the DM ;). 3. The Gestalt's most broken combos thread is what your looking for (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=767990) What? Druid/Cleric or Druid/Cloister Cleric for the absolute win :D. |
| Lawkeeper06-14-07, 04:21 AM | 2. Characters pick 2 class progressions and gain all the abilities of both. More exactly, at each character level you pick two classes, and you gain a level in both. So, you can multiclass in addition to gestalt, and you're not limited to taking a particular class on "one side". They are not disallowed you mean, they are up to the discretion of the DM . Exactly. In fact, I do not find that they unbalance the game that much, since all PrCs pack more power than core classes (as they are meant to), and they always make you lose "something" from the base class (be it turn undead, feats, features, skills, base saves, BAB, etc). |
| strenoth06-14-07, 10:05 AM | just remember that it's a campaign op5tion, eoiither every one is gestalt or no one is. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm the rules on it in more detail :) |
| Lawkeeper06-14-07, 10:26 AM | just remember that it's a campaign op5tion, eoiither every one is gestalt or no one is. Nope : all NPCs don't need to be gestalts. It may be a PC-only option if the DM decides so, although the DM would still be free to rule that some adventuring NPCs (PCs' rivals) are gestalts too. |
| Mindolin06-14-07, 08:27 PM | Yeah, not everyone in the world need be Gestalt, in fact I am going to be having a game with it, and only a small part of the population will be gestalt. |
| strenoth06-15-07, 03:22 AM | well, by every one I ment all PCs. and really, major NPCs shoudl eb as well, but I agree, not every farmer needs to be a gestalt commoner/expert, not village preacher a gestalt expert/adept (thouygh I may have just sparked a few ideas. :-D ) |

However, gestalts are exceptionals, and I don't think it'd work well for NPC classes (they're meant to represent unexceptional ordinary common men, and I know I'm saying the same idea thrice ;) ). If an NPC is exceptional enough to merit mention, start by giving him levels ; if that's not enough, then give him PC classes ; and only the truly exceptional (the equivalent of the PC) should get the gestaltisation. |
