I am going to have a chance to play a Gestalt character soon, and I was thinking about a Hexblade/sorcerer for pure style. Or possibly battle sorcerer, which reduces the number of spells per day, but woudl alow me to wear light armor, which is pretty nice, and spells per day can be made up some what starting at 4th level with the hexblades spells.

This guys would be charming and deadly, very calm and collected and not to much of a show off. perhaps a touch on the arrogant and cold side.

how ever, I have not delved beyond that concept yet, and i was wondering if any one had any particular ideas for feats? oh, and I am thinking that the best feats from the bonus list for Hexblade would likely be Combat Casting and the Spell penetration feats.

huh... I just had an image of Seifer blsting Squall with a fire blast during the sword fight of the intro sequance to FF8... which i guess is sort of how this guy woudl be fighting.

If you already play a Gestalt why do you use Hexblade? Fighter is way better in this stuff + sorcerer, especially combat focused ones are always in dire need for feats and the Fighter can give that. The additional benefit of the Fighter is that you can almost freely use prestigeclasses for the sorcerer part chause staying in Fighter give you the really good feat chains.

Because a Hexblade/Sorcerer sounds really cool :)

And that there are people that play for style and not for numbers.

It sounds like a cool mix from this end. I'd run with it!

mm, but one doesn't ant to ignore numbers either, and I just figured out this character's 6th level feat:

Arcane strike

since CHA gives bonus spells to both class lists, this character could easily burn a few from each list when needed with this feat.

other than that I am still looking for stuff that would fit this guy particularly well.

OK, here's my idea so far with the character build:

he'd be human, so start off with 2 feats. Since a shield causes issues with spell casting, I'm thinking Power Attack and Cleave would be good choices, as he is a fighter. Sorcerer spells to be chosen shoudl be mostly combat related, like say the Shield spell since I won't be using a shield anyway, and later Ray of enfeeblement , maybe true strike but not sure i'd really need it.

note sure what a good third level feat woudl be. I have no ideas for a sorcerer Prc I particularly want. hmm, i could throw Improve familiar in here, I was thinking the big familiars with the high BAB requirements would be easy to gt by 7th level. Hmm, a Hexblades Augment familiar spell choice owudl be good here

blur and mirror image seem like good choices for 2nd level spells for some one who is going to get into mellee.. cast MI and go in swinging. See invisibility can be chosen later from the Hexblade list

5th level grab either Comabt casting or Spell penetration as a bonus feat

6th level get Arcane Strike. Haste is a useful spell for a hexblade/sorc.

??? beyond that, but it's enough of an idea to get me started I think, unless any one has better suggestions?

I realize that you're doing it for the cool factor, but consider a Ranger/Sorceror: Good BAB, all good saves, Ranger spells (generally better then Hexblade), 6 skill points per level, Favored enemy, etc.

strenoth if you give us more information about what style of play you prefere, what stats he has and what race we might be able to help you better.

(Though I fear that this thread is going to be moved to character optimisation sooner or later by our beloved Wizos:angel: )

actually, i was replying to catharz. :)

as for your build banpai.. well, i wasn't sure what style I wanted originally, i think I like your spell selection more than the feat selection though improved feint as some definate advantages. i think I'd preffer to use spells for defense rahter than feats, so I see little reason for combat expertise unless as a prerequisite?

also, i'm thinking that choosing bonus feats to be spell focus for Necro and something else migth be good if I wanted to eventually go archmage...

oh, and what do you think in general about taking Improved familr with this class and at 7th level grabbing a Winter Wolf familair who I can boost with Augment Familiar (off my hexblade spell list no less).

im jsut tossing ideas around for now, and i hadn;t gotten any feedback on that particular idea yet.

Oh well if you want to take improved familiar make shure your spell selection helps you two, remember that you can share spells with your familliar and your familliar looks much more dangeraus when you share Bull Strenght, Mage Armor (a great spell for familliars), Cats Grace, Fals Life, Mirror Image, Blür, Fire Shield and Haste with him.

If you are going to use something like my build consider the great combination of scrocing ray + empower spell + good BAB

:;nods:: i think that' sthe sort of route I want to go with.. i want to wade into battle, eventually with a buffed big familair by my side, and I want my spells to make me more ffecient that way for the most part if you read my post rigth above yoru initial offering of a build, you'll see most of my spells went along those lines. and a Winter Wolf is already a CR 5 creature, toss on familair abilities and some buffs and that's a nasty fighting companion. :)
