I read the other prestige gestalt question. I did not want to appear to be blasting other opinions. We (play group) notice the unbalancing of gestalt when it comes to prestige classes, or even continually adding new classes. THe core for gestalt was to mix 2 classes. My solution carry 1 class 1 thru 20 no changing of the "core" class but allowed to change the second as you wish. mystic thuerge and others like it are banned. you may not mix psionic classes with the same ability attribute you may mix psion wilder, which gives tons of pp and powers list is longer( but for flare this is a poor combination)
so something of my campaign would look like this. 1thru 20 favored soul, 2nd class 1,2 fighter, 3 to 5 rogue, 6 to 10 cleric, 11 to 15 warlock 16 to 20 prestige class. Sorry no books in front of me, but you can get the idea. This has worked nicely for us. Using excel I even created the gestalt work sheet which mkaes adding bonuses easier.

Try this for a rear end kicking combo, on one side Barbarian all the way to L20, on the other, an arcane spellcaster of your choice. Take it to level 6 and switch to Abjurant Champion (Complete Mage pg50) at L5 your BAB becomes your caster level. Take it back to the Spellcaster class or hit the PrCl's that keep advancing spellcasting. With Ab Champ. you can buff like crazy, then rage and destroy everything.
