I've always liked the idea of modern and sci fantasy but I never could get the feel I wanted from pure D&D or D20 modern, so I was wondering what is I allowed gestating with one D&D class and one D20 modern class.
If I remember correctly someone posted they had tried something similar but had yet to play test it. This leads to the question what additional problems will result from such a gestalt ?

You can gestalt whatever base classes you want; it doesn't matter what book they came from. You can play a dread necromancer/sith lord if the DM's cool with it. Just watch out for incompatible class features.

Yeah, I combine d20 future/apocalypse with D&D just fine. (High tech ruins laying aroudn a la Barrier Peaks).

That's actually a pretty cool idea. It lets you either focus on one ability score, or work passably with multiple ability scores. Also, most of the D20 Modern class abilities are very roleplaying-specific. There's also the aspects of action points and massive damage, though massive damage really has no place in a D&D setting.

Dunno if it's what you're looking for, but I posted this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=678356) on the Playing With Everything board.

Are you mixing d20 tech with d&d magic items?

Are you mixing d20 tech with d&d magic items?

The best answer I can give you is in a way, so let me explain.
The setting is about 200 years after a great war for which the wide spread use of magic has been blamed. The vast majority of the current population live in Shelter city's which are believed by a vast majority of the population to be the creation of the great tech empire that in the past was the only thing that kept the insane sorcerers and power mad wizards from destorying the world all together. So magic and technology doesnt play well together, it's just hard especially because of the nature of magic items with there requirement of a little bit of there creators own life force and very specialized skill required for there creation such hybrid devices tend to be rare or extremely expense (masterwork = Master craft 3 in this setting). So mot every glock comes with that +1 conversion kit but I'm sure the half crazy basement gunsmith down the block has one bad a** custom sawed off with keen just waiting to turn some poor street rat to goo. Also only about 10% of the population will be dual class.
