If you use both variants, Gestalts and Weapon Groups, how do you handle the number of starting weapon proficiencies characters have?

A fighter//paladin for example gets 4 or 7 weapon groups?

I'm asking since if you don't use the weapon group variant, a gestalt fighter/rogue would get the EWP in Hand Crossbow even though only the rogue has it and the fighter's weap prof. list is better.

you would still only get the 4 groups IMO, because ti is the better selection. when using wepaon groups, you loose out on some of the automatic proficiencies in exchange for being able to choose.

I'd agree with four.

I'd say the same thing in non-gestault too for multiclassing.

IE:
Fighter becomes fighter-rogue: No new proficiencies.
Rogue becomes fighter-rogue: Gains two groups.
