Looked but cannot find this question.
I'm going to be playing a Gestalt this weekend.
I want to know peoples opinions on combos.
I'm thinking :
Hexblade/Sorcerer
Hexblade/Warlock
Wizard/Sorcerer
Fighter/Rogue
Fighter/Warlock
or
Warlock/Sorcerer

Now, a Warlock sorcerer works really well for pure destructive power. You can wail on enemies with your invocations, and if they laugh in your face, use a Meteor STorm on them. The only down side is the no-armor-from-the-sorcerer, since it screews up spells, but there are supposed to be feats to solve that. One I can't remember where it is, and the other is Still Spell. Or you can be a Warlock/Battle Sorcerer with a Waraxe as your weapon. That'd be pretty cool.

Psionics are your friend for all your gestalt needs. No power failure from armor, unlike spell failure.

I like the idea of the battle sorc/warlock

I jsut had an idea, what about a warlock/scout or a warlock/rogue that may be spiffy.

In general I am not a big fan of having both sides be a casting class, because in general you only get to be one or the other each round, whereas a Gish can use benefit from his wizard and fighter abilities each round. Just my opinion.

how about a warlock/warmage, both from complete arcane.

both could benefit from armor, the warmage side could cover you attack spells while you warlock could handle the versatility with some of his long lasting invocs, crowd control, and UMD.

both are charisma based, and both could cover each others weakspots.

just my 2 cents. i've been playing as a warmage in my most recent game and i enjoy the hell outta them, and i always thought those two would make really good partners

would a rogue/ninja get sneak attack and sudden strike?

Hexblade/Warlock could be a lot of fun.

Alignment matches, as does armor proficiency. Between Mettle, Arcane Resistance, and the Devil's Own Luck invocation, your saves should be much better than they look initially.

Hexblade brings good BAB to the table, as well as the Curse ability, which can be very useful. Plus, spells are always fun.
Warlock brings in Hideous Blow, which would work phenomenally with a big two-handed weapon, as well as all of those wonderful invocations...

Basically, all you'd have to do is pump Charisma as high as it goes, and occasionally spluge on a Strength item. Not a bad build at all, no sirree.

Yes, jsut like a rogue/scout gets SA and Skirmish.... how about PrCing into Assassin/Rogue to double up on SA

You can't double up on SA, you use the faster progression of the two classes (see the first bullet on page 73 of Unearthed Arcana). If you drop rogue for assassin your sneak attack from the two different sources would indeed stack. But yeah, sudden strike is not sneak attack, nor is it skirmish so you can get two of those at the same time (unless house ruled otherwise, or I'm reading it wrong).

running a gsalt for fun.. some of the good builds my players done

wilder/paladin- insane saves, and wilder did some good dmg

spell sword (was orginally sorc)/fighter type i dont remmeber (and you could swap with sorc at every other lvl to get full casting abilities). though i changed spell sword up w/ full casting a few other things and made it cont as 2 classes- - got to use spells w/ armor, then could use his attacks to delever spells.. add in arcane strike (the one that adds in +1 ar, and +1d4 dmg per spell) and your attacks can do some insane dmg... sword dmg+spell dmg+arcane strike dmg... need alot of spell slots though.. which is why he chose sorc

psychic warrior/fighter- built it just to see how many feats he could have... he got some insane dmg with using deep impact (touch attacks), then using power attacks, with some tactical feets, leap attacks, and what not...
------------------------

monk/druid should do decently well, already have the high wis

really just find 2 classes that have high need for a certain stat... similar to cha needed for pallys/sorcs, or wis bonus with psy warriors/monks... that sorta thing and you should be fine... int with swashbuckler/wizard

really you will probalby want one side to have some caster in them, and if u go arcane caster, arcane stirke should be VERY helpful with your attacks (though in gsalt it gets quite insane as you will probably have full bab, and spell progression)

its not too hard to make some really insane builds with gsalt.. anyway hope that helps

If for example you have 2 gestalted classes that grant you an increase to sneak attack at the same character level, you get the better of the two. But if one class grants sneak attack at character level A and the other at character level B you get both sneak attacks.

If you want real fun go with a Monk/Sorcerer. I've started playing one recently and you get to cause a lot of havoc with little effort if you're careful with your feat choices. Mine seems to currently be Vegita light with a little psychotic thrown in for fun.

Nope, sorry, re read the section.. it says to use better progression.

I'd like to try (or like to see someone try) a monk/fighter 1 | rogue/fighter 19 with Ascetic Rogue and Two-Weapon Fighting.

Get access to greater invisibility or a flanker, and you can be getting eight attacks doing 2d10+4 plus 10d6 sneak attack.

Nope, sorry, re read the section.. it says to use better progression.I dont have my book with me right now, but When I read that I intrepeted it as "Take the better thing on a level per level basis", because if you did some extreme mulitclassing looking at the progression and no the level specific benefits will actually cause you to mess up in the stats.
Example: Suppose you take Sorcerror/Fighter as your levels, Then you qualify for one of those nifty classes that says "Add a caster level to determine total spell ability", you would not want to take a level of sorcerror because the 2 plusses to caster level would not stack(so you would be wasting one of your level slots if you took sorcerror). So I took this a step furthur and treated everything on a level by level basis. But as I said I dont have the book right now, so I dont know if it explicitly covers this subject in such a detailed manner.

well, if you do it level by level, then you run into an issue like this with BaB:

A sor19/Ftr1 // Wizard20 woudl have a BaB of +20

And that.. just.. no. Even with gestalts.

Oh, and how's this for a nasty gestalt:

Binder//(incarnate or totemist)

Enjoy!

Thats the place you choose the best progression, you choose the better progression for BAB and saves not for class abilities, for class abilites you get both. and even then I think you are just better off doing fractional BAB/Saves and then not having to worry about choosing a progression.
Bulletproof_Condom

Yeah, "better progression" doesn't mean "which class gets a +1 at this level," it means good BAB, average BAB, or bad BAB.

Good BAB is equal to your level. Average BAB is three-quarters of your level. Bad BAB is half of your level.

Fighter/sorcerer 1 | wizard/sorcerer 19 has 1 level of Good BAB (+1) and 19 levels of bad BAB (+9) for a total BAB of +10.

It's based on an overly literal reading of the tables and it's wrong. I explained why two posts ago.

I personally think that pure Psychic Warrior and Monk would be a good combination, since you pretty much already have MAD and your wisdom is going to be rather high anyways. You can use psionic (bonus) feats like the Psionic Fist feat chain, Up the Walls, Speed of Thought, Wounding Attack, Psionic Body, as well as PW powers like Metaphysical Weapon, Prevenom Weapon, Strength of My Enemy, etc to power up your Unarmed Strikes.

I used what's sorta become the defualt short hand description for gestalting on these boards

Fighter1/sorc19 describes one "side" of the gestalt, while wizard20 describes the other side. So a detailed progression woudl be like this:

1) Fighter1//wizard1
2) Fighter1/Sorcerer1//wizard2
3)fighter1/sorcerer2//wizard3

etc

He is gestalting a fighter 1 and sorceror 19 with wizard 20 in an illustration of why you choose the better progression and not what gives you the bonus at each level.

I will show explicitly how he got the +20 BAB, even though it is wrong

1st level Ftr 1/Wiz 1 (Choose fighter BAB) Net BAB +1
2nd level Sorc 1/Wiz 2 (2nd level WIz gets +1 BAB) Net BAB +2
3rd level Sorc 2/Wiz 3 (2nd level Sorc gets +1 BAB) Net BAB +3
4th level Sorc 3/Wiz 4 (4th level Wiz gets +1 BAB) Net BAB +4
5th level Sorc 4/Wiz 5 (4th level Sorc gets +1 BAB) Net BAB +5
6th level Sorc 5/Wiz 6 (6th level Wiz gets +1 BAB) Net BAB +6
7th level Sorc 6/Wiz 7 (6th level Sorc gets +1 BAB) Net BAB +7

I hope you get the idea by now.

The correct way is

1st level Ftr 1/Wiz 1 (Choose Good progression for BAB) Net BAB +1
2nd level Sorc 1/Wiz 2 (Choose Poor Progreesion for BAB) Net BAB +1
3rd level Sorc 2/Wiz 3 (Choose Poor Progreesion for BAB) Net BAB +2
4th level Sorc 3/Wiz 4 (Choose Poor Progreesion for BAB) Net BAB +2
5th level Sorc 4/Wiz 5 (Choose Poor Progreesion for BAB) Net BAB +3
6th level Sorc 5/Wiz 6 (Choose Poor Progreesion for BAB) Net BAB +3
7th level Sorc 6/Wiz 7 (Choose Poor Progreesion for BAB) Net BAB +4

This does not solve the question about if SA has a progression, IMO it doesn't have a progression, you just get it on a level by level basis and I would allow people to double up on it.

yeah it aint a bad combo, but IMO you are better off gestalting psi-war or Monk with something that gives you a full BAB... monks with Full BAB rock... I am a fan of fighter/monk or ranger/monk actually. Barb/Psiwar is quit sweet IMO too.

Any full BAB melee class that you want to gestalt with psychic warrior is probably better off gestalting with psion. In exchange for three feats, you get a second good save, twice as many powers and power points, and access to 9th-level powers.

Unless you really need those other three feats, presumably because you need to finish five feat chains, you're better off as a psion. To me, three levels of powers is worth a lot more than three feats.
