Gestault Question [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-15-04, 01:21 PM I was just wondering if this is legal under the gestault rules because my another DM I know and I are butting heads about it. If you have a PC that is Level 20. (Fighter/Wizard) Can he take the next 5 Levels like this: 5 Archmage/5 Wizard? Making him 20 Fighter/25 Wizard/ 5 Archmage?

How come he would only get 5 levels of casting instead of 10?

03-15-04, 03:43 PM Because otherwise, you could stack enough prestige classes on there to give yourself a caster level of 35 by the time you reach level 20. Surely you can see how that would be overpowering.

03-15-04, 03:48 PM Because when two classes have the same class features, they don't stack, they accrue at the faster rate. Both of these classes have +1 spellcasting per level, and thus would gain them at that rate, not at +2.

And even if it were not in the rules, it shouldn't be allowed because it is INSANE. If you could go archmage5/wizard 5 for 10 spellcasting levels, what's stopping you from going wizard/loremaster earlier in your career to gain even more caster levels? If someone tried this in my campaign, they'd get the DM SMACK STICK.

03-16-04, 02:01 AM the only benifit from that would be for your familiar and possibly bonus feats depending on the epic progression or when you take them.
