I want to get your opinion on making an alternate to the gnome paragon. I would like to substitute Illusionist level for Bard level at levels 2 and 3. I want to get your reaction on wether this is balanced and whether it sticks to the theme of the paragon class. I realize the Bard is the favored class, but I don't think it's too much of a stretch to add Illusionist as a substitute. Would this be unbalanced and does it go against the value of the paragon class?

Well, if it is an either/or ruling it definitely fits the paragon idea. Even though Bard is the Gnome's favoured class, illusions are a large part of their racial paradigm. Makes good sense.

Good answer! My DM agrees and has allowed me to pursue it. With that tiny substitution, I'll take all three levels of paragon.
