Alright I had a couple of House rule ideas for Grapple.
One to speed it up.
One to make a little more sense.
Both bringing it in line with the way normal attacks are done.

1. No more opposed checks. Treat it like other fighting. Roll your attack (grapple check) and beat their grapple AC (10+grapple mod).
Speeds it up a little as it reduces amount of rolls done and such.

2. Treat it as an attack roll for all intents and purposes. Makes no sense that spells/etc that give you +/- to attacks wont effect your grappling ability.

Anyone think those ideas would be unbalancing or bad?

Sounds perfectly legit. It's just taking 10 on your grapple roll.

This sounds way too powerful for grapplers. It opens up a door to easily add many enhancements to grappling which, by RAW, aren't allowed... such as:

Delivering touch spells and powers.
Applying Stunning Fist.
Applying Freezing the Lifeblood.
Applying Weakening Touch.
Applying Pharaoh's Fist.
Applying Fiery Fist damage.

Although, I must say, as a grappler: I'd love to add these things during a grapple! My DM would freak out after I start killing everything in sight.

Dear god, how has nobody every thought of this. I seriously can't believe I didn't.

That's pretty unbalancing. Grapplers are already pretty powerful. A character built to grapple just needs to touch another equal level character and it's pretty much over.

Well I didnt mean re doing stunning fists (but you can basically do them anyway as normal attacks).

More just relating to magical effects like bless vs bane and stuff.

I just read this on Grappling this morning:

This is what I do, except I halve all grapple mods because without the variation of two rolls, grapple checks become even more one-sided than they are already.

Makes sense, but might cause balance issues. It might be wise to try out this house rule with a disclaimer "if it causes serious problems, this rule is revoked."
