Okay,

I had an idea. Then I thought it was crazy and discarded it.

It keeps coming back into my head though.

Basically,

I wanted to make the heal skill more important. It seems to be completed ignored in my games. We always just trust in healing potions and the cleric to get things done.

My basic idea, is that you get a bonus to healing from your heal skill.

For every 2 ranks in heal, you get a +1 when using a cure spell.

So, if you maxed out your heal skill, it would add +11 at 20th level.

**I have also thought of using the total heal modifier, but I am unsure of that.

I also thought, in higher levels, wounds would develop a "healing resistance"

Basically, for every 12 points of damage, Cure spells take a -1. So, if you roll a 3, you get 2 points back. This is overcome by the healing skill.

For each rank you overcome 1 point of resistance. **I have thought of using the modifier for this, and decreasing the points to affect the game sooner.

Well, I am just asking for some feedback. It is still in the development stage.

My original inspiration, was to show how someone who has learned more in heal is better than some new scrub just starting out.

My problem is that is seems I am punishing clerics who don't take heal instead of benefitting those that do.

You could have a heal check instead of a caster check on effects like the infernal wound from the bearded devil or the cursed wound on a clay golem.
The heal skill is very useful whenever you're poisoned or ability drained. Getting back 1 extra ability point a day without a feat or spell isn't bad.

At any rate, I would suggest *at most* allow a +2 synergy bonus to the amoung of hitpoints healed on CLW through CCW and Heal, as well as the mass versions thereof. (not minor wounds; that would be wrong).
I also suggest the augment healing feat from complete divine.

Complete Adventurer has Healing Lorecall (a spell), which allows you to synergize healing spells with the skill. They also added forensics rules to Heal, iirc.
